I run my cooler in series after the trans and before the in radiator cooler. This is done for two reasons
1. so if the trans gets hot most of the heat is dropped before the radiator
2. if the oil out of the cooler is cold the water temp will help keep it warmer

This has served me well including passing cars on the state highway 8 up from the Roxburgh Dam, towing a 17ft caravan, middle of February with air temps above 30C. Being careful to stay with in the speed limit, with the only other mod was the removal of the EGR.

put in new alloy radiator, high flow thermostat and davies craig 6cyl trans cooler on weekend, trans cooler after radiator, went out the coast towing trailer with quad on it, up some hills etc, temp gauge didnt even move the whole time, so far so good, the test will be next fire wood season... see how much wood i can tow up hills before it over heats.. next job, dump pipe and snorkel....

Out of interest where did you get your radiator from? Is it in an KZN130?
Cheers

Got radiator from these guys here:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/stores/redline ... mance-2012

Looks like i may of got the last one? cant seem to find one but ask them they said its a re-order item. And yes its in a kzn130 ill chuck a pic up later

So far where i have got my trans cooler its been fine but if i do experience any heat issues i might swap it to how you guys have got yours setup, i just done mine that way as a old school mechanic guy i know said hes done lots like that and never had a problem, either side of the radiator i think it probably does the same job. so far so good

there were a couple of things that didnt quite line up like a couple of the shroud holes, and the hose/pipe that runs over the top of radiator only one bolt hole lined up, this is what cable ties were invented for lol. All the main mounts hoses etc all smack bang on the right place

The aftermarket trans cooler would be better off cooling the trans fluid before it goes through the in radiator cooler as this way you are not transferring excess heat into the engine cooling system.

Like i said, if i have any probs ill swap it around, but how it is at the moment towed trailer and quad up some hills on weekend, got to top and bottom of radiator was still cold, so think i should be fine, time will tell

Ok small update, redline radiator had crap welds on it, and pinholes in some of them causing antifreeze to leak, have got my money back for that one and now have a fenix radiator, looks to be made alot better than the redline product, and also the trans cooler in the bottom of the radiator does not cover the bottom radiator pipe inlet, trans cooler is to the left of the hole, so stops that problem of trans cooler stopping water flow, will fit up this weekend and see how it goes.

the fenix radiator has been awesome so far, with old radiator and no trans cooler i would foot flat the old girl up big hills and itd slowly creep into the red on temp gauge. now with the combination of trans cooler and fenix radiator i can floor it up even bigger hills over take people on passing lanes etc and the temp gauge doesnt even move a bit. happy as with the combination seems to be working real well done 1500k up north and back and not a single problem

Yep, similar results here. Did the same rad, with trans cooler, and no overheating at all now. Off to test it on the beach soon.
