I have a 97 kzn185 Surf and looking for some things to make it go better. is currently running with 2" lift and 285/75/16 KL71s And has a intercooler on it
Show me what youve done..... Exhaust? boost? Fuel? ECU Chips?
mate of mines done a custom manifold to a bigger turbo with a supercharger aswell, It all runs through a custom water to air intercooler/intake manifold.
Fueling is taken care of with a rapid module. it makes some serious grunt and will fry the tyres at 60k's ...and it's an auto

big exhaust with dump pipe is the first thing. if its an auto dealing with the trans cooler is also important. both things will help stop overheat and head cracking.

pull the motor out and sell it 1kz's are popular engines and throw something bigger in thats already got all the factory horsepower you want instead of trying to ring the neck out of your existing engine
i am running power chip from no limit tuning with adjustable fuel delivery and running the standard fuel pump, its delivering more then enough fuel to support whatever mods you are going to do i am running. 2.5" exhaust, front mount intercooler, water meth injection and 20psi and have a huge adjustablity in the chip i am only on setting 3 of 7 settings so have alot more room for more power if i ever decide to get a larger turbo...... i defently recommend the ecu chip but only if you have a few mods as they do deliver alot more fuel. i wouldnt use one on a standard setup alone... and will completly change the feel of the truck. didnt think i would ever see this power from a 3l diesel, having no problem smoking it up in the dry now
Hi guys. If IIRC there aren't any issues in upgrading the dump pipe without changing the fuelling or running an ECU chip?
Would definitely appreciate a few view points on this. The guys at Diesel Services in CHCH don't think there would be any problem. Just bolt on, drive and forget?

hey just wondering the chip you have which one is it..... Im on no limit tuning and im seeing they have 3 types of chips for the 1kzte
Hi guys, first post here, got a 1kzte surf, looking at doing a few mods to it starting with the basic stuff, read through this thread and a trans cooler looks like the way to go first off, followed by exhaust, then need to find a few more psi boost! Is this trans cooler any good http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 484227.htm or better off going for a radiator type cooler?
radiator cooler is far far better. only reason those long tube ones are any good is you can fit them underneath on the chassis rails and they are not so prone to damage.

Do the long tube ones have same cooling as a external radiator type cooler? just looking to get trans cooler and coolant radiator separate due to the heat problems these engines have.

And only radiators i can find on trademe in my price range still have the auto coolers built in, i dont have to use it though right can just block off the holes?

Ask for radiator for a manual instead of an auto if you want one without the oil cooler in it. A radiator without the oil cooler is supposed to have better water flow as the cooler partially blocks the bottom pipe in an auto radiator ( It does in a 130 series Surf, I'm not sure about the 185 series).
purchased alloy radiator today, and a davies craig 6 cylinder trans cooler, hopefully radiator turns up by weekend then thatll be my weekend mission.
do you guys run your trans coolers in series or stand alone? was thinking of going with the in series option and see how things go, surely itll be a shit load cooler with the cooler in series with trans cooler in new alloy radiator? your thoughts and opinions are welcome!
