FYI, Queens Birthday is Mon 2 June this year. So everybody had better start preparing for their trip to the centre of the universe (Rallywoods) for Queens Birthday Weekend, 31 May - 02 Jun :!:

Here's some feedback from the trip just been this weekend for you unbelievers:
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9538&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=90#p106830

And here's some more general info for those of you who are wondering where/what Rallywoods is:
mudlva wrote:hi there guys weres rally wood? and is there camping on site etc or a camp site close by. is it a comercail park and how much is the fees etc i try to goolge it but rallywood was coming up as a closed page. it could have something to do with telecoms system. hoping to here lots of info Cheers MUDLVA

costs $10 per vehicle per day and $5 per person to stay the night

Mark wrote:Fair question. I had heard lots about it but knew nothing of it until a few months ago as well.

It is a privately owned block of land (approx 500 acres I think) that is owned by about 4 people (or groups). Each owner has the private use of a 6 acre block to put a house on, etc. The rest is basically just bush covered and has lots of tracks all through it from forestry back in the old days.

In the middle of the property they have built a hut with bunks, kitchen, fireplace etc. But there is also a gazebo structure with a big fireplace in the middle that everybody spends most of the time around.

There is even running water, flushing toilet and an old generator for lighting, etc.

It's a very good setup, but a bit run down. The last time we were up there Paul was talking about rebuilding part of the hut and tidying things up a bit.

And the best part of all is that the 4wding is excellent. You have to expect a bit of damage when you go in there, so not really shiney suitable, but all sorts of options for other trucks.

You could ride in there, but the Akatarawa Forest which Rallywoods borders is a better option because of the size.

I can organise this with the usual dodgy trip leaders if you want...(unless someone else want to....happy to assist them etc), maybe a quick visit to aotea block for the out of towners as well as a nice hard track in the Aka's or 2 on the 2nd day.

Just to clarify, this has been pegged as the ORE Convention of the year. Everybody from all around the country is expected to come. It will be the social event of the year and trips will be arranged into the Akatarawa Forest Park as well (just down the road).

Closer to the time we will need to know numbers so that we can put plans into place for managing access and accommodation logistics. It will also be organised and hosted as an ORE National 4x4 Association event, but visitors will be welcome.

I hope you are looking forward to it as much as me... because last year was tiger balmerrific!

Ok discussed this with MARK, an ORE convention is possible otherwise it will just be a normal ORE Assn Trip

- we are both jointly organising this....
- Booking s WILL be required, or an indication that you may be going.
- Please tell us if you are tenting/require space in the Hut.
- If you are bringing kids etc let us know as well (looking at this being a family friendly campout trip)
- ORE Assn Trip, visitors are welcome (visitor fee will apply)

More info will be posted later, we need to know potential numbers at the moment.

PLEASE ADVISE NOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED OR NOT

Cool, one thing we may be looking at is extending the bunk accomodation into the covered area at the side of the hut....should be enough seats if you need one in a truck if you are bringing a shiny truck....may even get Steve with his green Zuki to come along.....just have to nag him a wee bit

jerry....... how bout leaving this thread purely for those that are replying that are going too attend. If you have a million and one mods for rallywoods, put it in another thread. Im sure the wellingtonians are happy (I assume) what you have done for the place.. But every thread you start turns into a 15 page farkin novel. If this is out of place response by all means delete it.

No, it's a fair enough comment. Previous Rallywoods threads have been prone to information disappearance due to too much waffle. So if we can just keep it simple and to the point that would be great.

It's great to hear that some of you guys are coming down from up north, and from down south as well. Good on ya!

Keep those "I'm coming" posts going

I had a thought, don't get many so I hope it's muchos bueno

With so many coming from all over the country why don't we start sorting out billeting accommodation. I think that if we are going to host the National Conference then we should open our homes, spare beds (spare not share), couches, floors etc cuts down on cost to them. I am sure this will be happening anyway but if those that are thinking of coming on the grande excelente excursion it may be the difference between coming and not coming

Here's another idea

We break the organising up to different area's with Mark as Capitán Comandante (overall control)

Jerry can be Toromierda Capitán Servicios (In charge of campsite accommodation for you gringo's)

Mike can be Supremo Generalizado and organise the Southerners

Someone else can be Topetar Toromierda Capitán (trip leader or in charge of organising trips)

Share the load, it's not right that poor old Jerry does everything

Great idea. It's probably a good idea to get onto this nice and early.

If everyone in the Wgtn area who is happy to take in a hillbilly for a night or two PM me with details of how many people you would be happy to take in, ie spare rooms, beds, couches, floor space, etc. I guess it would probably be the night of Fri 30 May and maybe Mon 2 June, depending on when people travel to and from Wgtn.

Then I can put together a list and anyone looking for accommodation can PM me and I'll hook you up

We have spare rooms and beds so if you are wondering if you are going to come because of accommodation costs you can stop worrying about it and get your butts here.

How I ran it on the weekend was to organise the structure and just left it to the TL's to run the day which worked well and just help when they wanted it, I like the idea of having other people look after certain things.....Mark maybe you and I should get together and make a list of all these things and then start looking for volunteers? would make sense if you look after all the assn stuff and all the bookings and stuff, I can look after the structure of the weekend and ensuring we have suitable people looking after these.

potentially we are looking at people to be in charge of:

Security: Bubba? making sure people park properly and don't disturb us after lights out and dealing with troublemakers
Trip leaders: 3 Rallywoods ones, 2 Aka's ones
Catering: if we are going to provide catering
Meeting point people: to wait for and lead them in to rallywoods
anything else?

Re Accomodation we can open up Rallywoods on Friday/Night if its easier....,otherwise refer to Marks post re beds.
Yes we will be calling for local volunteers to help out even if its just little things.....so expect to be shoulder tapped

This thread is a wind up/discussion thread and not the official trip thread so a little 'chat' is appropiate,

Things people may want to think about:

- do we want to cater this internally ie pay $x and have meals provided by ie a team of volunteers, is there interest in brining in say someone external ie spit roast place?, thinking 50 people trying to cook dinner at once might be a bit hectic...
- are people going to want showers etc there, can chase up rallywoods and see what their plans are otherwise we could look at hiring a portacom. there are a coulple of alternative options...
- Are people happy with the Rallywoods/Aka's/Rallywoods format? or do you want something different?
- are people happy to prepay their trip fees? held in trust by the ORE Assn

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on this weekend please raise them here.....it may be appropiate to have a organising group thread so we can discuss things or even local meetings, there should be a chair so Mark or Myself can do this...who's bringing the beer  If you are keen to be on this group maybe get then to PM us.

.

The problem with doing that sort of catering is the time and gear needed. It would be far easier for people to cater for themselves. i.e they can cook on their gas cooker/bbq in the back of their trucks if need be. I am sure that no-one will be in a rush to get dinner over and done with. It gives more time for beer drinking :D if you have to wait to cook dinner.
Once you start catering for that number, for three days, then health and safety issues kick in with reguard to hygiene and food storage.
Also I know what I am like   and I would end up volunteering and spending half the day sorting out the meals and not getting out and enjoying myself. That or every meal would be stale bagels

Hahaha thats exactly what I thought!

I think it will work out just fine if we leave the delegation and control to Mark, when he needs assistance he knows who to come to, myself included

Woah there... let's hold those horses back a bit ay! This isn't really the sort of thing we need to discuss at this stage. Let's just see how many people are actually coming first and then we'll start looking at those sorts of logistics. If the numbers support it then we'll sort some of those things out.

I'll talk to you about this tonight Jerry, but in the meantime let's just keep it simple and find out who's coming.
