Pete, like all your build threads I am following this one, your attention to detail, speed of build and willingness to share keeps you at #1 on the must read list on ORE

.
Now I would like to give a bit of friendly advice to all Readers and Users of "Skinny Cutting Discs used in Hand Tools" The threaded hole in the head of the Angle Grinder is to take a HANDLE, please make sure it is fitted and used, hold firmly with both hands and not both hands around the motor part of the Tool.

, one did bite, ripped out of hands through the top of boot and half way through the FOOT

, many operations latter, twelve months of Pain Clinic, back at work part time after eighteen months OFF, will never be right

, (a work mate).

, on a brighter note, don't worry

,
IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU ,
FITZY.
PS; not getting at you Pete------keep sharing.

Not much action this week as I have been in Taupo working
Saying that, my goal was to get the brake lines cleaned up and fitted this week, and I got that done:

Will I was away, I finally made up my mind on what to do with the motor. Its been a tricky one.
If $$$ was no issue, I would have Suzispares in Oz get me all the bearings and seals for the crank from Japan, and a top end overhaul kit off ebay. I have enough good conrods and a good crank to make a nice fully rebuilt motor. I will probably do this in the near future, but for now there is no point soaking up the projects budget with motor parts when there is potentially another probably quite good option.
That option is another motor I have which is in pieces that I bought years ago, apparently it had a blown head gasket. It looks like it has had a recent top end overhaul as there are fresh hone marks in the bores. It has the weird factor though, it looks like the head gasket was either re-used with RTV, or a new gasket was installed with RTV, or the head gasket leaked so someone tried to stop the leak by using RTV
Eitherway, it was a major fail!!! It can't have done much running as there was still a tiny bead of excess RTV inside the combustion chambers

The motor was the spare for when the motor in The50 died, which at the time I presumed would be sooner rather than later considering it was full of water when I got it
Anyway it has sat around for a few years now full of oil and grease to preserve it, I have a new gasket set for it, a new water pump, and maybe even a new dizzy cap and rotor.
So why spend $$$$ when this is sitting there?? Be interesting to see if it will run, and for how long
So tonights mission was to drag it out of storage and start cleaning all of the oil and grease out of it and get it ready for reassembly with a new head gasket etc.
I think I must have put maybe 5L of petrol through my parts washer spray gun, and it finally looked like this after a clean and re-lube with fresh 2stroke oil:

Nice clean lubed crank

Just about ready for the head to go on:

The cylinder head getting a petrol bath to try and soak some of the oil deposits off. You can see the RTV still clinging to it. I might take it in and get it checked in case it needs a skim, as the possibility exists that it might have warped and caused the head gasket to leak........

I also started cleaning up some of the parts for the rear brakes to its ready to go when I sort the new wheel cylindes and shoes. Fiddly shit jobs, but ya gotta do them

sheeeiit your catching up to me

Wish I had the parts stash you have. Then I wouldn't be constantly chasing all these stupid little parts I end up needing
Good work, keep it up.

subscribing. Love all your threads Pete.
Is that blue truck the one that I had a drive of? (and failed miserably!) Is that rear tray/cage new?

looks different but the same.

Doesn't look like much progress from the weekend, but it was progress non the less
I spent the best part of it tinkering away with the motor. Heating up parts to get seized bolts out, cleaning gasket surfaces, replacing frost plugs, finding I only had one new water pump not two etc etc
The best part was I had spent a few hours working on a cylinder head, only to notice that it had a bodge repair on one of the spark plug threads. Some sort of threaded insert. Not a Heli coil?? Either way, it would have had an effect on the compression ratio.
I ended up with the second choice head from a motor that has lunched itself. The result being that one of the chambers in the head is a bit peppered from ring shrapnel

, but it will do for now. I even picked a ring fragment out that had embedded itself in the chamber.
I have one more head if I get desperate, but its stuck on the block. I went to unbolt it and the heads sheared off the bolts. Bloody electrolysis, alloy head, steel head bolts
Anyway, some pics
Dragged some of the stash into the shed to pinch stuff off. 4 motors to make one

Dirty rusty old shitter, seized, total wreck. It donated the cylinder head and a few odds and ends:

Parts engine. Has a nice crank. It almost donated a clutch, but it
was to worn to be worth it.

And this is the original motor from Wombat, its donating all sorts of stuff, but being left in a state that if this motor experiment fails, it can be slapped back in quickly.

Its still waiting for the alternator, starter and air cleaner, but is definitely looking like a motor again:

Progress. Its all progress

Shit you are good at this pete! Really enjoyable thread.

I bet there are people out there who would pay to put a project into your care for the full treatment. Shit you are good at this pete! Really enjoyable thread.
