It Has begun... "Project Wombat"

Post by DieselBoy »

What??

Project Wombat??

Don't ask me, ask Satalite, she named it

The Plan in stages:

 Ground up restoration of body and chassis with out going over the top, no point owning it if you don't wheel it!!

 Wof and Reg

 Engine rebuild

 Roll bar (hoop and back stays)

 3rd seat :D

 Find a use for the PTO

So this is what we are starting with:

Did you know Suzuki's are Biodegradable??

Don't believe me?? I'll show you:

The work began at the weekend. The stripping has started:

Some more bio degradation under the canopy:

I ran into a snag when I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the PTO shaft from the PTO box, as it runs through a hole in the body work. So I took some pictures of it in stead.

PTO Box on top of the T.Case:

PTO with steel sheild removed showing CV joint and rubber boot still in serviceable condition at this end:

PTO drive end of the saft with V Belt pully

I reckon I could run a little GM power steering pump off it and power the smallest hydraulic winch I can get my hands on

Lots of hours ahead of me with this project

Nah, unfortunately.

Still, its only $300 to re-vinn, and its been registered in NZ before, the rego just lapsed so no damage repair reports required. Plus its getting the LURVE anyway so it should be fairly straight forward.

As of a month or so ago, you can now keep the original black and white plates if they are in good condition :D :D

Hey man, where did you get the price of $300 from for the re vin? I have been told to re-vin my R12 it would be like $1000 or more.

Just curious. Would like to save what I can.

oh and I also heard the guys out at sylvia park VTNZ are used to the older vehicles so are good for getting the older cars re-vinned.

Cheers

  no more backwards , slidey , skidy fun in the wet paddocks at night

Front half of the tub and floor pans don't look to bad 8) that poo brown rust paint out in the cow shed should sort most of it out , but looks like you will need to get creative with trans tunnel.

Rear end looks savable :? :?
How is the chassis looking under there?
oh and more pictures of said PTO transfer case .........

Ill have to start a build thread know  and claim all the bits I want before you use them

Haha, last Friday Night I dove the wheels of it for about 3/4 of an hour, lets just say its pretty bloody wet round here at the moment    I was undertaking a scientific study to "test" the condition of the engine by making it do some hard work

I think what I will do is cut all the rust out and make one big poo brown patch to cover all the holes. I would say all that will be left is the trans tunnel and a bit of the fire wall after the rust is cut out

Progress pic's coming later tonight.........

Been hitting it hard this week, lotsa rusted nuts and bolts, dirt, rust flakes and cuts from jaggy rusted edges, but progress is good :D

Don't quite know what I would do with out a rattle gun, angle grinder and BFH

Popped the front clip of and dumped it out side:
Image

Dash all stripped out and de-loomed:
Image

I thought a couple of pic's of the engine might be interesting. It sits high in the chassis, even more so as the motor doesn't have a sump like most people are used to seeing:
Image
Image
Image
Image

The Tub is free, finally got the last rusted body mount bolt out
Image

Rolled the body off to the side for the first real look at the chassis. Looks GOOOOOOOOOOD, i'm stoked :D :D
Image
Image
Image

Some awesome rust holes in the floor pans!!!
Image

Good news is the trans tunnel and fire wall are good. With those two parts, the rest of it will just drop right into place :P :P :P
Image
Image

Just for UBZ, some PTO pic's:

The Front PTO CV joint
Image
Image

PTO on T.Case
Image

PTO shaft and rear housing
Image

And for Mudslut, the bloody shaft came straight out of the joint, no circlip or nothing. So much for our removal cross member mod

Water blast is up next

that is so 8) 8)
it just bolts straight to the top of a standard case :D

I think it needs to be opened for a more detailed inspection, to see what ratio the case is

and to see if it is copyable.......
