I currently have a BJ73 running naturally assp, 3b and five speed manual, kitted with 33,s 10000 lb elec winch storage boxes 12v heavy power supplies prs etc but is a bit tired and has some rust that will need done before I fit a body and susp lift (bits in my shed waiting fitment), I also have a nice condition BJ73 running a 3b-t turbo with a auto trans. only 180 k's on the clock stock except for pto on front (been my shinny truck). I want to part with one truck but am having trouble deciding which one. I could sell club truck anywhere from as complete toy ready to go or strip off my bits and sell base truck. if I sell it complete I should get enough to replace with all new toys for the new truck including arb or genuine locker for front and certifying. I have a body lift kit, longer shackles for susp and LSD for the rear of either and will look at either keeping my 33's or running 35's and change out transfer gears (want to get to 35's at somepoint). the pros to the new truck is it has had all rust cut out of body (except rear doors) and has been well maintained, con is the work to go into it and the time it will take to sell old one would need to sell old one first so I know what bits I will be left with dependent on what buyer wants. so put in your two cents worth... What would you do?

:shock: well I have had plenty of you read thread but do none of you have an opinion? don't worry I will not comeback and bit you if I end up keeping a lemon, nows your chance to condem one of my trucks to the sales yard..... :twisted:

After reading the last thread 3 times to try and work it out I think I got it. Sounds like your head and heart and saying two different things. You feel you can't get rid of your old truck, the one that is just costing money and will continue to with rust etc.

So get rid of it! And build up your new one - half the entertainment is in the build. You even say yourself with the money from selling it you could get more goodies!

Pretty easy I'd say.

Build the new one, it is always fun to mess with new stuff in the shed than fix old gear in the paddock 8)
No matter the problem, the answer is always give it more gas.......

Go the new truck. If it is an auto as you stated, and you haven't done much off the road work with it, you may be pleasantly surprised how well it goes.
I have always run manual boxes, until I put the 5.0ltr in my pos, I have found the torque multiplication you gain far out weighs the engine braking issue. everyone seems to forget that as long as your wheel brakes are hydraulic, then you have control over how much clamping pressure they apply. So I see no problem with applying braking pressure when descending.(unless you are the sort of person who will panic and apply to much braking and lock wheels up, in which case you have just tried to out drive your own ability, either learn from it, or don't do it again)

yes I must admit that the auto would be a big plus cause am struggling with the manual, plus the aircon goes..... :wink:

I'd say sell the old toy, keep any particular parts on it you like or might not be able to replace or would cost a lot to source for the new one. Get what you can for it and go for the better of the two.

In saying that, if the old unit is still to your liking and you don't want to beat up the new truck maybe stick with what you have. and sell the newer one to some one who will beat it up any way - maybe :)
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.
