Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
Got no tacho in my lexus powered LJ71, well I have the one in the dash but this was originally connected to a 2LT, from what I'm told there are issues connecting the diesel tacho to the 1uzfe. to complicate things more its running a LINK instead of the factory 1uz computer.
Can I connect the diesel tacho to the 1uz?
Or is it better to just get a new one to wire in
Where is the best place to connect it?

Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
what do you need a tacho for? it has a rev limiter
Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
It would work but not worth the hassel, Id say the link wont drive the factory tacho, but the link could drive an after market tacho that has a low Pulse width Modulation (PWM) The Factory one on ya dash is prolly a High PWM, Easiest bet would be hook up the aux output from the link ecu and get it drive an after market Low PWM tacho. Depends on the link ECU you have as it might do a High PWM output, i know the LEM G3 doesnt as ive just had this problem. And my tacho is still out
(old 4cyl tacho getting driving by a 6cyl motor) Hope that helps

Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
Have the same problem with mine Jerry. I cant run the tacho in dash. I did hook it up and it reads about 1/4 what it should. I have heard there is a place in nelson that can sell a unit to fix it, but never really looked into it. I run a little after market one
Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
The link has a low output so won't drive a Toyota dash rev counter but you can drive it off one of the coils.
Most Toyota petrol gauges have a little pot on the back of the cluster which you can adjust to calibrate them correctly.
I have a 4cyl and a 6cyl Surf cluster here and they are both adjustable.
Matt.

The diesel ones aren't so adjustable. I have a v6 instrument cluster thats been sitting in the garage for a couple of years, that one day I will take the rev counter guts and put it in the prado, will have a working rev counter then.
AnythingElectrical in Nelson sell the box of tricks to convert the link output to a diesel input.

YUP
you will never look at it
you should be watching the track anyway
I used to have one in Orange and decided to remove it after never looking at it ever
occaissonally I could see the little red light come on, but you don't hae to worry about that as yours has a limiter

What about a Dash from a Petrol 70 series (3f 4.0 L motor) would that work?

no dramas it will prob never get over 2500rpm anyhoo, not like mine, the wife took it for a cane and as soon as she found that limiter thats where it sat all afternoon

Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
Drive it off the black wire on one of the ignitor units..one has one wire more..that one.and just plumb the wire to a after market counter..it'll work sweet..make sure you put the selector on the after market rev counter to 4 cyc as the ignitors work in pairs and drive only half the mota ie 4 banger..

Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
if i'm running a link does this do the job of the ignitors? (ie do i still have them??)

Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
the manual that came with it says lem5 and it says "link 2 channel ignitor" at the start of the manual, the diagram says the link goes directly to the coil packs and distributors.... (the factory comp installs require the ignitors I think

Thats right on the factory one. I have two ignitors and one has a extra wire for the revs.

Re: Dumb 1uzfe + Link Tacho Question?
The stock motors have two ignitor's, one for each coil/back of four cylinders.
The Link comes with a two channel ignitor that replaces the stock ignitors. Some of the later two channel ignitors have a dedicated tach driver pin on them that you then run to the gauges.
