Skids damp, musty POS

ever since I got it, my 80 has had a damp musty smell to it.

I removed the rear carpet as is was covered in blood and so was the floor.

The problem I have now is that some days in the rain if the 80 is parked at a certain angle(yet to determine) the front floor wells fill with water, sometimes as deep as an inch of water especially on the passengers side.

I thought it was coming through windscreen, but after some delicate sealing, it turns out its coming in elsewhere.

you can see water dribbling down inner kick panels but still can't see where its coming from



What I have now decided to do, coz its pissing me off to hop in after a week or two and smell the shitty musty smell, is that I am going to remove all the faaarking carpets and cover the floor with something else.

I have tried drying the carpets out, but it just leaks again and stinks more and the undercarpet stuff never seems to dry out at all.

Has anyone ever user bed liner inside their vehicle and does it reduce road noise at all and are there any other issues I may need to know about it.

Could be coming in from the air intake at the back of the bonnet, or may be like the mitsi's and be behind the guards at the bottom of the A pillar, this is a common thing with a lot vehicles too...

check the sunroof drain hole mate, they fill up with gunge near the bottom and then the water cant get out and comes in. they drain down the A pillars to a bung in the floor pan so if the gets clogged the water comes in near the kick panels. get a bit of fairly firm electrical wire and feed it down from the top and rod the shite out of there.... should work mint

Sweet, as soon as this shite weather stops, I may just have to go check that out.

Still gonna pull carpets though, even if its just to dry them out until I am certain of no more leaks

I got as far as ramming a piece of stuff down the holes (one on each side) and working out that the exit point must be at floor level somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

then the farking rain started

then it stopped long enough for me to attempt the air horn install, but as quick as it stopped, the bloody rain started again.

its a waiting game now

I used Hippo linner on my 413 and in the tray of my Hilux. worked really well but wear gloves cause the stuff sticks like gooey shit to a blanket and takes months to get it all off (okay - weeks). Dont know if it made a diference with noise but I put rubber mats in as well. I also cleaned the underside and used some sound deadner underbody spray as it all helps.

pull out the carpet and chuck a bottle of disinfectant on it and then waterblast it, then sprinkle a good amount of laundry powder on it and then waterblast it again...getting every bit of it, then hang it on the line to dry....

Another option is to let it soak in the bath for a few days....

can also get in and get someone to run the hose on it, maybe you can see where its coming in.

hi ther hippo liner doesnt do much for the sound but man its easy to clean. note of caution make sure you kill any rust before you put the stuff down as you will never see it until the floor panels disappear. i have seen this happen on a mates truck, what a bloody mess

Does it have a vent at the bottom of the windscreen? if so this is for the heater if it is blocked in there with leaves and general gunge etc when it rains it will fill up and leak through the heater vents and all over the floor. You will find on the firewall somewhere 2 (most probably) bung type things that probably point down at the ground. stick your finger or a screw driver or similar up there and clear them out, run the hose on full blast into the corners of the vent at the bottom of the windscreen untill you can see that you have flushed the shit out and have a clear good flow of water comming out.

If you dont have a vent/grill type thing at the bottom of the windscreen then disregard my post and deal with your wet floor lol

if anybody has the same leaky problem and you have a sunroof ( SIG ) , then I can highly recommend ramming something down the drain holes in the sunroof.

since I have done this procedure, it has rained once or twice and in the last week or so we have had a fair dosing of rain and some of it was very heavy.

Very pleased to report that there has been no water inside the 80 at all.

Now you have fixed the drain it might be worth sticking a dehumidifier in it over night. Last time i was in one that got dunked water was coming in the heater vents, dash, windows and sunroof But it dried out all good and even still has carpet in it.

i found that the water driped in through the firewall via the wiring loom on my suzuki haha
