cant really see why it cant be done as the pto drives off the transfer .only issue may be when you put transfer in neutral for winch operation auto may start spooling up and turning winch on its own accord.ummm that could be a problem.unless you had some form of trans brake .maybe some one else has some other ideas :?:

The PTO shouldn't drive until you engage the gears, so when you are in neutral (transfer box) you will then have to engage the PTO leaver to winch, wouldn't recommend driving and winching with an auto though might end up very messy if/when it goes wrong.

you can always put the high/low lever in neutral then select the pto lever and ingage it then put in drive, this will run only the winch.Once high /low is in low that will drive the truck at the same time,id snap it up they are great winches
on my 3rd POS 70 cruiser still havent learnt

just be careful with the turbo 400 trans as going from drive into netrual then reverse the trans itself doesnt like this as the trans when taken out of drive and into netral is still turning in the drive direction. ive had to go to a hydrolik system to get away from the issue of either graunching reverse or having to turn off the motor to engage reverse.

the toyota autos have a brake system that stop the trans from turning whne it is put into netrual.

to explain further with the transfur box in netrual the wheels are disconected from the transmission output sprocket/gear thingy. you engage pto to start the winching process. reverse is to winch out, drive to winch in. going between the in and out process is where the problems arise.
