right i have just recently brought this viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15555, now since it lived the last few years out leifield beach the chassie is in a bad way with surface rust what have planned is to take the whole cab off and strip for parts buy new cab, sand blast and paint the chassie and underseal the underside of the new cab.
now what i am thinking is:
1, a rust proof primer and a etch proof black paint,
2, powder coat
3, a 2pac paint
or any other option that you guys recon would be best

I used Tergo black guard to rust convert all the little rusty bits then used Super Cheap under body Bitumen sealer on the under side of my 65 Lux cab, Its sticky as hell and forms a good sound deadening layer aswell, I also used it in the foot well area inside the cab to add a xtra sound proof layer before lining the complete inside of the cab in Rhino Liner so its now a hose out cab.

yerp, tried POR15 too but anything less than an ideal prep job and it peels off just like any other paint. Prep is the key to getting the best out of this paint. And where I have done the prep it is proving it's worth...
...but, I can't be bothered anymore so use supercheap Septone Bitumin based paint - Chassis Black, sticks like sh!t to a blanket, stays softish so cannot chip off, even to a certain extent scrap-proof when the ramp-over angle gets beaten.

so that would be good for under seal of new cab what about the chassie
as in prep would sand blasting be enough

sandblasting is the perfect prep for POR15

I'd certainly follow Jafa's lead on that one. I didn't and made do with a wire brush on a grinder. Wasn't up to it so I have peeling POR15. On a 'keyed' surface such as sand blasting, it'd be far better I imagine. It dries hard and in one or two patches I have here, it dries 'hammer' hard. Ask Jafa to confirm how his job is holding up though.
I use Chassis Black on the chassis. I wouldn't use it on anything I was going to be working on from time to time though (welding or panel beating) as it is bitumin based... would burn and keep burning I think...

Doh! beat me to it... there ya go. One thing to watch with POR15 though. If you get any on your skin, it takes longer than normal paint to get off. Also is bloody expensive!

Ever considered hot dip galvanising the chassis? Is it feasible on a toyota? Heat issues? I heard of a few fellas have galvanised their later model Land Rover chassis with no ill effects.

Re: under seal/paint chassie
i used some mipa underbody-coating on the under body and chassis never goes hard so u can not paint over it wont continue to burn if welding next to it and sticks real well got mine from rj patersons 12 buck for a litre tin but needed three in the end they also have it in 4 ltr tins just brush it on with old paint brush also used some spray stuff i got from work for the places the paint brush wouldn't fit some of the rusty bit i coated with tergo blackguard first
and wear eye protection and old overalls or simular as don't come out!
good luck
