Hi
I'm replacin the crankshaft oil seal on my 2L hilux as it blew when it took in a bit of water during the firewood loop last week. Am trying to undo the crankshaft pully retaining bolt but its just turning the clutch. The haynes manual makes reference to the flywheel inspection plate to jam the flywheel and undo the bolt, there are no pics of this and I cannot see anything obvious on the motor. 1985 2L with a G52 gearbox. Can someone please point me to where the inspection plate is located?
Thanks
Nick

Re: Flywheel inspection plate 2L?
The only cover I can think they are referring to is the one on the front of the gearbox which covers the bottom of the flywheel, there is no other covers
The easiest way to get the front pulley nut off is to put a socket on a strong bar on the pulley nut, turn it till its wedged against the chassis or body in a strong place and give the starter a flick

You won't find this way in the workshop manual (
), put socket and power bar or spanner and length of pipe on crankshaft nut, turn over until your weapon of choice is hard against the drivers side chassie rail and then flick the key to start but you don't want the engine to run, if it does turn off straight away, this way you are using the torque of the starter to undo the bolt. If you don't want to do this remove the starter and jam the flywheel through the starter motor hole. I have used the 12v electric multiplier many times but it can have it's downfalls eg; bent starter armature, you would have to be very unlucky.
