as the title suggests, I urgently wish for a little understanding of my air intake on my 80 series, 4.2 diesel.
I have looked in my manual, but it doesn't give me the answer I'm looking for.
Have a trip planned this weekend with river crossings and I don't have a snorkel.
What I want to know if where the intake system comes from
looking at the air filter assembly under the bonnet, the pipe come from the inner guard region and from the front.
does anyone know or better still have a pic or an exploded view of what it looks like inside the guard.
in all honesty, the trip will probably be off due to the excess rain and the river will be in flood, but hopefully at least I will know how my air intake works.
cheers in advance

Uploading picture for Skid it's easier for him to understand...
From the filter housing theres that little stubby bit which goes into the bit you see 1/3rd of the way up.
Left is headlight side, right it firewall side of guard.

Re: 80 series air intake URGENT QUESTION

so the box looking bit sits behind the headlight and the far right of it is a down turn bit that draws air up from the inner guard

Also, is it exposed to the elements or is it actually inside the guard and fairly well protected

Re: 80 series air intake URGENT QUESTION
Yup, it draws air from the inner guard and there should be somewhat sealed from factory if you haven't had the guard off.
I've been through quite a bit of water but personally wouldn't go through over the bonnet stuff or get stuck.
The front of an 80 should create enough of a wave anyway.
Just take the shiny detour

doubt we will be doing any river crossings though
been a fair bit of rain over the last 24 hours and you probably know as well as I do how bad that river can be after a teeny wee bit of rain let alone a shitload like we've just had/having.
nice avatar by the way
