3.0L Surf diesel intercooled or not?

Post by Sorcha »

Hi there
Is there much of a performance difference between 1996/7 Surf 3.0L diesel intercooled engine and non intercooled diesel engine? I had a 97 Surf 3.0L intercooled surf and while it was great for towing my horses around it turned out to be a lemon and had to be sold. Im on the lookout for another one but the intercooled ones seem to have jumped up in price (I bought mine for $12k Oct 2008). There seem to be a couple of non intercooled 3.0L engines around which I am considering - any known problems I should look out for and are they capable to do the job towing 2T? Which is better for towing auto or manual?
Cheers :)

Cant recall the exact fiqures but a google search will tell you, But the Intercooled version has a very slight power increase and about 30-40 more NM of torque, They do go just that much better and will hold a gear higher on big hills etc and they also run a lot cooler so they dont suffer as much from the over heating probs with the 1kzte.

I have a 1994 Surf, not intercooled, tows my boat & wives double horse float with two fat horses no problem. Have done 100,000 ks since I bought it, only servicing I've done is oil & filters every 10,000 ks. I bought a manual as I prefer them for towing, only thing generally goes wrong is the clutch, easier to fix than a auto.
