Big end bearings, geniune or not?

Going to get the big end bearings done on the cruiser (1HD-T), even though I'm told its a 12hr job

Am I better off sticking to genuine Toyota, or aftermarket?

excuse me?? 12 hours?? are you getting a builder or a mechanic to do this job??

where are they getting there figure from? are they thinking of the mains maybe? engine out onto a stand split the block replace the mains and big ends then back in and service the injectors aswell?? thats a 12 hour job but most certianly not the big ends by them selves

8hours absolute max if they get the hairy to do it and about 4 if someone who knows how to turn a ratchet does it.

12hrs...they havin a laugh surely

ohh and nothing wrong with ACL bearings, get the whole set for about 70 or 80 bucks

Thnaks. The guy I spoke to originally quoted 18hrs, then was told it could be done by dropping the sump, so said "only" 12 Was hoping they knew what they were on about, being Toyota dealers and all.

Will get the bearings ordered, book it in and hope for a pleasant surprise when I get the account I guess.

I went for the genuine bearings, as there are some special sizings, 1 through to 4, and each engine has a combination of these bearing sizings. Its important as it get the clearance's spot on.

The ACL bearings are a generic one size fits all type deal, you get a box of Standard Sized bearings, or a box of Undersized Bearings, each bearing in the box is the same as the next.

The proper toyota bearings account for variances in the way the journals were ground in relation to each other.

IMO having the correct and best possible clearances is important for the longevity of the bearings. Best possible clearence is achieved by using the correctly matched genuine bearings.

I paid $1100 for new genuine big ends, recondition of existing injectors, clean out of intake manifold and adjustment of valve clearances.

Mine only had 111,000k on it, so injectors where salvageable else that would have been spendy.
