80 series buying advice please

Post by gimmemud »

Hey guys, looking at buying an 80 series land cruiser here in Aussie. Looking at getting a 4.0l or 4.5l petrol auto because the turbo diesels are still way past 20g for one under 400k. What should I look out for? I know these aren't known for their fuel economy but most hiluxes here are totally overpriced with a gutless 2.8d or just shit boxes and want something to go bush that aint gonna crap out on me while I'm there.
Driving to work I have to drive about 70km and 20k of that is windy up hill road, will it handle it everyday?
Also possibly looking at mid to late 90s prado's as they are priced relatively similar but are they any good?
Thanks in advance for any advice

I'd go for a 4.5ltr if you can find one. Our 4.0ltr hasn't really impressed me with its lack of acceleration or speed...

Still think its well worth while getting the petrol if you aren't doing massive kms. Wife doesn't use hers alot so it has been the right choice over paying extra for a diesel.

Cheers Matt, will definately be going petrol considering the price difference for a diesel and luckily here most of them seem to be the 4.5 so a bit more choice.
