Winch Solenoids

Post by suzukisport »

I know this has been covered before, but i'm after one or two new solenoids. At the moment I am running just the standard Warn 8274 with a 6hp motor with the factory solenoids, looking at upgrading them and the front mount Come-up winch solenoids have packed up so I need to replace those as well. Been looking at a few different brands and just wanted to get an idea of what's good, and what's not.
Here is a TG Thompson solenoid.

Runva

Or this one

Just wondering if any of you guys have these or have had and what you think of them.
Cheers

Forgive me for being ignorant,
Is the electric motor 2,3 or 4 wire?
I have used marine winch soleniods in place of most the common brands. Not looking at price, but i have built so many soleniod configations and sealed them in "J" boxes they put up with almost being submerged in salt water.
From experience if you go for a Runva, disassemble and file the contacts to ensure 100% surface contact and they will put up with the stall load of any winch.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
