opinions . . . .
well ive got a 93 hilux surf with a 1kz, its got 2 inch body lift , snorkel and 2 inch suspension lift with sum longer travel shocks in the back annd no sway bars and 32" nanakang mudstars,
well anyway , im kinds frothing at the mouth over sum 35's i want em bad, but i bought my 32's only 3 munth ago, so they pretty much havent worn atall, problem is ive already blown one front diff from gettng front wheels airbourne and one cv so , its either SAS or 35" icnhes.
ive got all the parts to do 3 inch exhaust to extract some more power out of the 1kz just waiting on flanges, so im sure i wont be to worried about lack of power on 35's untill i get different ratios

Re: opinions . . . .
if your blowing diffs on 32's then 35's are going to chew them to pieces.
for 35's 4.88 on auto or 4.55 on manual to return to factory gearing.
Sas is the best option , but alot of work and it's been stuffed up many times before. will also lift the truck quite bit to fit the front diff under the IFS chassis
what is the real reason behind wanting 35's and Sas? ground clearance / flex / bling factor? etc etc . what do you use the truck for mainly
do you have a locker in the rear yet ?
my rear locked manual 1kz surf on 4.3 diffs and 33's easily out drove a similar surf on 35's but unlocked and ungeared.

Re: opinions . . . .
mines set up as a everyday truck, needs to handle at speed
, be good on fuel and then can be driven hard on trips and hunting use.
and i have not lockers or lsds
Also may have trouble finding 4.55 for a prado diff if you use one, heard you can only get 4.3 and 4.88 for them

Re: opinions . . . .
reason for SAS would be to stop grenading diffs and cv's , reason for 35's 50% bling 50% ground clearance.
mines auto 1kz on 4.1's
truck is mainly driven on tarseal roads, but running no sway bars so its very sloppy but have learned to be 'one' with the truck haha., im sure it looks like its gonna roll from the outside,
KIWI_TERRANO
thats the kinda setup i want for my truck, coils all round. i really dont like the straight line ride that leaves have. al stiff and bouncy and shit, i like my lush coil couch
would really like sum pics of your trailing arm setup etc,

Re: opinions . . . .
It has factory lj78 diff set up,
Did this as needed strenght but wasnt to worried about flex (even though it did turn out awesome!)
It has 3inch lift in front and 5ish in the back, plus 2inch body and no sway bars at all(reason behind the front adjustable shocks)
Has 3inch no muffler exhaust has 35s and 4.8 ratio and f@#king moves I love it and handles good really for what it is.
I would say get 4.88s (since it auto) and same set up as mine and stick to 32 or 33, looking back now if i didnt need the ground clearence for places i go hunting (and trying to get higher than mates hilux) i would have stayed on 33s and taken body lift out. Should (if you can drive) be able to keep up withmost trucks on 35s

Re: opinions . . . .
looks like i may end up heading for the 78 series prado front end then . i guess i should head towards the strength end of the string rather than looks and a bit of clearnace and just be smashing shit up more
No muffler it is then.

He will learn, but im young and like thrashing mine but now its almost bullet proof'
You will need the
diff
pitman arm off prado steering box
2 or 3inch front springs for prado
8inch travel front shocks
new brake lines
Now you can choose from SNR$X$.co.nz ifs hub spacer which allows the ifs hub to be mated to the lj78 prado diff so you have the right wheel track to match rear or you can go spaces (Ive heard dodgy things can happen with spaces
the back will need 4 ich lift springs, either HD 80series cruzer or 4inch lift springs for surf, Chamberlains in chch make some
Then you will also need cert for this
GIve me a pm if you want some more pxt of my set up

Re: opinions . . . .
When I had 31s on my surf I never broke any front end components, when I went to 33s on wider offset rims I started breaking cvs, broke a diff and bent 4 idler arms in as many months and I drive like a nanna. I sassed my truck and never looked back!!! I think the ifs is primo on the setup it was designed for, but with big tires on grippy terrain where lots of wheel lifting happens that shit can't handle it. And more importantly sas looks cooler and girls don't like boys with ifs, sounds like some sort of STD.

hahaha i really shouldve gone said it out loud, girls dont like boys with IFS,
i forgot to add ive already bent both idler and pitman arm, ooops, i really think it is time i started collecting these SAS parts
KIWI TERRANO
will be intouch as soon as i get some parts, and really find out how much work ima be digging myself into

Re: opinions . . . .
Yeah it all adds up pretty quick, a couple of mates and I did all the labour on mine and it still cost almost double what I was expecting, and mine was only a basic leaf spring setup. But totally worth every cent. Get into it. Oh yeah.. I think we might have drunk about 2 grand worth of piss while we were doing it too.

Re: opinions . . . .
so your rockin leafs up from and coils in back?
Re: opinions . . . .
Hi,
Just something you might want to think about if you go 70 Series diff housing, I think the pre 1990 and post 1990 have different axle lengths. The Pre 1990 are the same as the 40 Series whereas the post 1990 are both odd ball lengths. Not sure if it is the same for the Prado diffs.
It means that you might only be able to upgrade the CV's not the axles unless you get them custom made. Won't be able to use Longfields or Dirty 30's.
Just a thought.
Cheers
Tim

Yup, leaves up front, coils rear... Sounds a bit funky but works sweet, running 80 series rear springs and truck sits about 4 inches higher than a standard one. Most guys in the states do leaf rear as well but they're generally going for more like 7 inches lift! There's a few others out there with coil/leaf. I chose this way cause it's heaps easier to engineer and a bit cheaper. The amount of front flex it has is amazing... But I havnt seen a coil one in the flesh so can't compare. I originally ran mine with no rear swaybar but put it back in cause it was too wallowy on road, working on some swaybar disconnects.

Thisis totally true, a couple of mates with prados have had trouble with odd ball lenghts but replaceing the outs shaft with a hilux or chromeolly (CANT SPELL

Seen a couple with leaf set up , they are much easier to do but coil will ride better From my opion
