80 series factory winch wiring issue

Post by Danjr »

Gidday, anyone know how the solenoid that provides the main power for the winch works? I've wired the control of my winch into my cab and have 2 wires providing 12v to each one of the solenoids on the winch but don't seem to be getting anything from the main power cable. I know it goes through a solenoid mounted under the battery so not sure if i need to switch this solenoid somehow to provide the power to the winch. At the moment there is no reading from this cable. Any ideas?

Cheers

The winch on my winch 80 is 12 V and wired across the right hand battery. I have been told that some 80s have a 24 volt winch but have never been able to find one to look at. if yours is a 12v i suggest that you just wire it across the right hand battery

Cheers, Yeah 12v, I think only the starter is 24v. Mine is wired from the right battery to the 24/12v switch, then into the solenoid and then into the winch. Will try and get it working via the solinoid and if this fails I'll wire it off the battery.

A bit more steering at it and a few tui's later and I think I know the answer. I need to supply power to a yellow and white wire that goes to the 3rd solenoid to switch it so that the main power works.

Hopefully that will sort it.
