hey guys went 4wding last week end and my mates truck died he managed to restart it once but ran really rough and smoked quite abit then stalled. since then we havent managed to start it again. iv checked power to the glow plugs and even pulled them out and checked each one individually. i then cracked off injectors and made sure it was getting fuel but still no luck. what should i check next
So its definitely got fuel? and is it injecting in a sequence when you crack off the injectors? They will eventually start with glow plugs not working but if not try putting a jumper lead from the positive terminal on the battery and to the glow plug rail for 10 seconds. Also try draining out any crap from the fuel filter but to be certain replace the fuel filter. Then make sure its bleed right up, remove the fuel supply to the injector pump from the filter housing at the filter housing side pump hand primer until fuel streams out, refit fuel line. Keep pumping hand primer until it gets hard it should squeak as the relief valve opens. Try to start. Make sure you've glowed it first. If it starts give it a good rev until it clears up and runs smooth. If none of this work also check the basics eg no fuel leaks, theres fuel in the tank etc etc Next step is take it to a mechanic

it was black smoke.yip tried the hard wire trick lol. i cracked off the nut going to the fuel pump and hand primed, got good pressure there. then went to the injectors and cracked them open im getting some fuel there but dosent seem like alot should it be pretty high pressure? timing fault maybe possibly jumped a tooth on cambelt? what do yas think? hope its not another 2lt boat anchour as he just brought the thing and started kitting it out
Black smoke is generally over fueling. Stupid question but nothing got in the air cleaner and blocked it did it? Not that I have any experience with a situation like this
unbolt the turbo outlet pipe. possibly the turbo has siezed which sometimes can choke it enough that it won't start. also, not sure on the early ones, if its got a butterfly in the inlet that its opening and if its one of the egr equipped ones block the egr off it could be stuck open.
will deffinatley try all ya advise guys, i would like to do a compression test does any one in chch have a deisel compression guage i could borrow? could sort ya out with beers or something
