another weekend of things to do, a quick trip to pick apart got a torrano air cleaner for the turbo conversion

me busy buildin bullbar for new truck. got most of it together.

Shit weather so stuck inside and got bored and started doing some research.....

Been looking at hilux (02ish to 04ish) for an upgrade from surf as I need a ute, bit prices are stupid so had me thinking can I convert a 2wd to 4wd for the same price I can buy a 4wd lux but it will be even better. heres some links

Want some peoples thoughts on this
Lj/kzj78 diff front coil set up with wide hub conversion and then a surf rear diff running 33 tyres and make it look factory with some 4wd flares etc and then either turb the 5l with a manual pump and ct20 or put a 1kz and auto(I like autos) in.

peoples thoughts?

Been out in the garage playing with the winch free-spool mechanism. Will give it a rest Sunday so as not to upset the other half

If you have to pay some one to do the job it will prob be way cheaper to just buy the factory 4x4 in the first place.

Or if you can do the work yourself and seing you have already spent a LOT of money on your surf that you will never get back, just find a single cab lux with a blown engine and swap the cab and wellside/deck over or you could cut your surf body down and make a xtra cab with a well side. (thats what i would do)

your surf's wheelbase is shorter than a factory LWB hilux (single or double cab) so cutting down your current body would be easier than retro fitting a cab and wellside as if the wellside is off a lwb you would need to shorten it at the front to get the wheel arch to line up with the axle.

hey KIWI_TERRANO you should start up i new thread to see what people think, that is what i am doing have brought a chassis and going to swap my 2wd lux over on to the 4wd chassis

Yea thats another way but they bloody hard to find now, I was lucky as my wellside was off a swb jap import Lux so it fitted my 130 surf chassis perfectly.

Drove 400+km round trip to pick up new gearbox. Really stoked with my purchase. Now, to build a truck around it
I'll give it a couple of weeks to find a donor, then I may throw this box in the terranosarus and trailer it to the next couple of club runs in the meantime

Hi Craig, last weekend I bought a hilux single cab on a 4x4 chassis off Rob-mu, it has Dash, doors, exo, etc, no running gear but reg on hold and certed for lift, a rover V8, etc.
I got it for parts/spare cab but have decided it could be a good project next year so it's in hibernation till then

Well I had a very expensive morning. Went and got wof, rego and 8000kms RUC First time in a long time ive had a completely road legal vehicle quite a good feeling too

Now to relax and enjoy the rest of my weekend before I start my new job on monday

Pulled out the front diff. Could explain the nasty noises



Pinon also lost a couple of teeth



If anyone has a spare front diff to fit a LC 105 solid axle, let me know.

Stripped down transfer case today, installed PTO gear, re assembled and fitted to trans. Now ready for monster garage tomorrow, throw the 350 in the hole and make some mounts to suit....

Thats the approx google earth coordinate of where one or our staff got a mitsubishi triton stuck today. No decent recovery gear to get it out.

It is still there. It will be there overnight. High tide is about 4:00am. Will see what it is like tomorrow.

Yep - the sunny Pilbara region of Australia. Been here about 6 weeks now as a recent immigrant.

Wish I had our Zuk here - it would likely have floated nicely across the flats to him and have enough gear in it to get him out.

Got my sons project "Rusty ZooK" into the shed and stripped out the rusty diffs ready for new ones but found the body to have far to much rust so off it came

Yea thats another way but they bloody hard to find now, I was lucky as my wellside was off a swb jap import Lux so it fitted my 130 surf chassis perfectly.[/quote]

all thou if the 80 is the same diff as yours then i have one here its also got the factory electric locker head in it as well.

i was going to pull the head out in a week or two and put it on trade me but it can come out a lot earlier if need be

Well I touched up the paint on the Lada, after some came off when I cleaned it (really beginning to hate the previous owner, and his shoddy work )

And I also got rid of some of the rust on the front end. (Even more angry at the previous owner for not maintaining/taking care of the vehicle )

And I also bought a spring to use as an extra return for the accelerator on the carby

Pulled a '84 410 T/case to bits to chuck in some new bearings and seals..



Once done it'll replace the standard 413 case in my ute for a little lower gearing.

I dropped off my Airlocker at a friends and pulled out the air locker unit to take off cylinder cap so that this part can be machined new from new to a higher standard, also for the O rings to fit better as this is were all my leaks are coming from.

Hopefully I get some good news that my friends dad can machine this part, if it is not good news then Iam not sure if I should save up for an ARB one or just get a Lokka/ Lockright.

I have most of my secondary horn done just one crimp away and connection to the battery and it will be done, this will scare the bijesuse out of someone when I give them a wake up call.

No not yet, I that is still on the cards.

Bought a Terrano last week for a run around,I knew it had a trans oil leak so got it for a good price.
It goes surprisingly well, but my coiled cruiser handles better than this worn out POS
Spent yesterday avo installing a new stereo an today pulling out the trans to fix the leak.
Looks like some small stones have been getting into the bellhousing an jamming between the torque convertor an bellhousing cos theres no cover on the bottom
Hopefully ill get a new seal an put it back together tomorrow
