Recently my Auto shitee itself. 1993 Prado. 1KZTE motor. The Torque Converter delaminated and blocked the filters causing it to overheat.
I went to Aceomatic in Stanmore Road as they have always done a good job for me before. Estimate for a recondition was between $2500 and $3500. Serious money. I left the truck with them.
During the night I had a thought. Having bought an import motor late last year from Blairs in Geraldine I wondered if they had import boxes. Rang them in the morning and yes they have them. 90 day warranty and all. I headed up there and they have several different ones for my motor and more in Chch.
They gave me a very good price. I am told that they come attached to thei motors they import from Japan and while they are well known for motors they are virtually unknown foe Gear Boxes. Hence the good price.
I sent Aceomatic to the Chch branch but there wasn't one there that suited so I got all the details and went to Geraldine. First one I looked at was the right one. Lucky. They literally had hundreds of them. All models and all makes.
Took it up to Chch, Aceomatic checked it out and fitted it.
All up cost about $1800.00 and on the road quickly again.
By the Way it came complete with Torque Converter and Transfer Box. This meant a saving in labor as it was then fitted complete. I will sell my old transfer box, probably get a couple of hundred for it.

Hi Graham, I have had a few Torque Converters out with problems but have never heard of one delaminating and can't think of anything in the T/C that could delaminate, they are made from steel, may be a bit of bronze and needle roller bearings, is delamination a description you have used or one that Aceomatic used, I'm just curious to know, or has my old brain let me down again,
SILLY OLD BUGGER,

Mate it was about the same time as he gave me the price so mind was thinking shit, how do I pay for that. What I know for certain is that he said that bits had blocked the filters on the pump so no oil could get through. Best I can remember. I'm no expert that why I get others to do my mechanical stuff. LOL

Nah. Now that its been fixed and is so different with the change up and down when you put the slipper down its been going for a while. Noticed on the last trip that I had to go into low range a couple of times when I thought it should have done it in high range.
Was driving Godfreys Red Prado for a couple of weeks. He's over the road from you now. Rema Place
Cheers
Graham

Maybe the torque covertor lockup clutch?
Or maybe as I had happen to one of mine , all the metal 'blades' inside stripped off inside the convertor?
Good to hear of the business's working together to get a happy customer, and look, word of mouth is spreading the good news. Makes great advertising for both of them
Re: Auto and Manual Boxes
Hmm, how much was the box worth? they go for between 150 and 500 on TM.
