Re: turbo change
to check it take the air intake from filter off and grab the wee nut. If there is any in out movement or heaps(more than a mm each way) thenyeh is on its way out.
A good upgrade would be the ct20b. afaik it bolts straight up. and go a good size front mount.

Re: turbo change
For your exhuast Uniweld on mainsouth rd around the corner from 4wdacceseries is pretty good to deal with reasonably priced too

Re: turbo change
as a 2lte doesnt it already have the ct20 ? or is a ct20b anthour type of turbo ?
Re: turbo change
2lte uses the ct20, the ct20b is found on petrol motors and is not a straight bolt in.
would like to know the easy way to intercool a 2lte tho.

Re: turbo change
depends what model surf 2lt you have is it efi and newer than 90?
Ct20a came out on pre 90s and then they brought out the ct20b it has different inlets outlets for water cooler and the turbo is visably differently looking, but still same mounts and size. the bs have a bigger wheel by 2mm which is f all. no point using petrol turbos or they wont boost to to late.

The ct20b is also on the ikz te as well. It is by far the best of the toyota turbos.
They run smoother boost and don't tend to get as hot. And 2mm in wheel size is a bit in turbo speak
As for using petrol trubo,it quite a common practice. For a 2.4 d motor you'd want to look at a turbo off a 1.6-1.8ltr petrol. Even a td04 might be ok.
Fyi i run a tdo5h(subaru) in my safari, full boost was at 1800rpm(15psi) and held it all the way to 5200.
Re: turbo change
are they straight bolt on??
or a bit of fab work needed?

Never heard of a 1kz with ct20b??? even my mate at dsl never heard of this from factory 1kz came with a ct12b,
all the ct20, ct26 should bolt straight on, mate has a ct26 or a ct20 manifold on a 5l 3ltr pretty sure he didnt change anything
