Only had my Prado 5 days now, and the ecu has shit itself and the pump is seeping. i guess i need to borrow a car to go on holiday now. so bugger fixing them both, just been reading KBushnz threads on his current pump project and im following in his footsteps while they are fresh,( im hoping to pick ur brain if you will let me.) been reading up from searching the forum and net. going to get kaiapoi to make a hybrid frm my 1kz te pump and a 2lt pump.
Any1 got a 2lt pump for cheap? north waikato or auckland area?
and any1 done this conversion who can tell me what else ill need if anything?
Oh and mines auto, so where can i get a aftermarket auto controller?
Cheers guys.

I am planning to keep the std ECU....(mine hasnt gone pop yet)
The ECU will still control the Glow Plug timing and also the auto.
Will throw out errors and engine check light will be illuminated all the time.
Thats easy to fix... remove bulb / cut a wire.
Well thats the theory. Some others have already done this....
There are lots of aftermarket controllers and guys have made there own manual select units here on the forum...Especially those putting in the 1UZFE's as they use the same auto (practically).
I am still playing with the feedback cable for the auto and TPS unit. But I have already done some work with my intercooler install and now my throttle is in a totally different place. (remote fly by wire)
I would search my posts and see what else I have done as your job will be a whole lot bigger as I have been evolving my truck to this point.
Also happy for you to pick my brains, well whats left of them....
Cheers Calvin

I suspect that getting the ECU rebuilt may well be the easiest and cheapest option.
http://www.anythingelectronic.co.nz/front.asp received my unit this morning, have diagnose the problem and have repaired it today. It is now on a courier and I will have it tomorrow, God willing!
Fantastic service.
I too am wondering about going with a manual pump and am 1/2way there having now got a spare KZ pump.
However I figured getting the ECU fixed 1st, was the fastest way of getting the rig back on the road/track.

Well got my ecu done by Anything Electronic in Nelson as was well buggered by the leaking caps. Got a few pics of the damage for my records. Put it back in and engine still wont go. Got out the workshop and manual and have found the spill control valve is buggered as well. so there goes camping this summer, sending off my pumps to Kaiapoi this week. Time for more research!
Anyone interested in a good spare ecu for their 1kz-te?

Re: 1KZ TE died, Manual pump time.
Spill valve is easy to replace. It is on the top, at the back of the pump body.
My truck ran around for a few days with a 2nd hand one off a 2L-TE. Was not set up for my pump but I did not really know the difference.
Diesel Pumps (in Chch) have done this before when checking components, so I was happy to do this knowing it was not going to harm my engine.
You probably have a good working Spill Valve on your spare pump, so try swapping this out first.
When you unscrew it, you will get a small amount of diesel dumping to the floor. When you screw in the 2nd hand one, you will need to prime the pump with the hand pumper above your fuel filter. Easy as
As I understand it, when you do go to a mechanically controlled pump, you will still need your ECU to control other things. So don't be in too much of a hurry to get rid of it yet!

Yes Spill valve easyish to replace....even in the truck......
Yes keep the ECU.... It does the Glow plug timing / control..
Also drives the Auto box if you have one....
I am almost ready to take mine (manual pump conversion) for a drive
