VZN130 Surf Body lift

Post by boon »

Ok, just to confirm I'm planning this right:

1992 Surf
2" Steel body lift spacers
Bunch of new M10 bolts and Nylock nuts:

Method:
Take bumper off
Unbolt ALL body mounts
Unbolt radiator
Jack up 1 side of body
Insert spacers + bolts
Jack up other side
More spacers and bolts
Drill new holes for the radiator bolts 50mm lower down
Mount rad 50mm lower
Make some brackets to re-attach the bumper 50mm higher up
Put bumper back on

Stuff to keep an eye on:
Bolts 1 week later
Fuel filler pipe
Auto shifter stuff

Does this all make sense?

Any tips? Never done anything like this before. Someone warned me that if the body shifts on the chassis I'm up sh!t creek with regards to re-aligning it.

make sure bolts are grade 8.8 or higher and you can leave radiator attached while lifting then sort after, hoses have enough play in them.also like said auto shifters may need slight adjustment

lossesen the hand break cables to the Rear diff
check starter to battery cable length
check power steering hoses for length
check fuel hoses for length
stretch brake line coils as you lift
check for trailer wiring
lossen steering shalft splines under dash
remove bolts holding steering shaft firewall seal
grind firewall for steering shalft clearance
check all underbody electrics

To prevent body from moving leave bolts on one side in place just nipped up and jack up other just enough to slip the blocks in then do the same for the other

Youll have to grind a little out of the floor just above where the steering colomn goes thru as the colomn will move up a little.
You sometimes have to grind a little out of the floor around transfer case shifter or it will sometime jump out of low range.

Piece of piss in the end, left the radiator where it was since the lower shroud was already missing.

Seized bolt on the shift linkage means that doesn't line up just yet.

Only bad bit was when the 4x2 I was jacking it up with split and the bloody thing dropped on the floor and may have cracked it around one of the body mounts, which, depending if it's actually cracked or not, will make me a VERY unhappy chappy.
