LN107 Soft Brakes
I just replaced rear drums, shoes and slaves on my 96 D/C, after bleeding the proportional valve and the brakes from from far to near I get no brake pedal on initial application,
comes up good on third pump. Seems as if its a booster problem and not the brakes themselves. I am getting vacuum from the pump.
Any thoughts ?

Re: LN107 Soft Brakes
I would try re adjusting the rear shoes again, pull the hand brake on hard and then try the foot pedal, If that brings the pedal up it is an adjustment problem. If this doesn't fix it you may still have air in the system, when you bleed the rear are you getting good flow out the bleeders ?. Did the pedal feel alright before you started working on the brakes ?. You could have a stuck limiting valve or dual brake master cylinders can be difficult to get all the air out of the rear system, you may have to pressure or vacuum bleed , stick with it
. you will get there.
Did the drums and shoes come as a set ??, it is possible to have turned oversize drums, in which case you need oversize shoes.
BRAKES ARE ONLY FOR SLOWING YOU DOWN,

Re: LN107 Soft Brakes
Thanks Fitzy,
The drums and shoes are matched, the old drums were so badly worn they wouldn't have cleaned up before they went over max size. Brakes were good before working on them. Ill try readjusting the shoes and see how I go, cheers.

Re: LN107 Soft Brakes
Readjusted shoes and as I was underneath the truck my neighbor who teaches automotive maintenance passed by and offered his vacuum bleeding setup
So now I have really good brakes,

Re: LN107 Soft Brakes
Well done, was it the adjustment, or air in the system, or a bit of both???
You back yarders are going to put me out of a job

Re: LN107 Soft Brakes
Mostly the adjustment, one side was still quite a long way out. I did get some air from the proportional valve. Really appreciate the assistance.
cheers.
