Cross over steering hilux
Cross over steering hilux
I did a trailgear hi steer kit almost 2 years ago now .it seems the tres keep coming loose now the thread in the links is sloppy. I have replaced 2 tres since install . Im now up for 4 including the 2 replaced already. Why does it chop tres .I run 33 buckshots .Is this normal or do i have a problem .

Might pay to PM suzolla (thats who you got it off wasnt it?) I think your drag link and tie rods are cut down and rethreaded 80 series. Sorry its been a while

Re: Cross over steering hilux
if you are after 4 new FJ80 tie rod ends i have 4 for sale all 4 for $150, snr sell them for $50 each
Re: Cross over steering hilux
the ball joints arent my problem its the links. the joints are standard 80 wound nearly all the way in .the wheel alignment is good .the joints are a little sloppy in the end of the links

Re: Cross over steering hilux
Just been through my photos. Its got crush nuts Sadam
Might be better to loose the crush nuts, find some clamps and slit the rod.
Re: Cross over steering hilux
Hi Ray,
Just to clarify, yours was a proper full trailgear high steer kit.
Presume when you say "tres" you mean tyres.
Only way the high steer will affect your tyres is if the alignment is out.
When you say the joints are sloppy in the end of the links do you mean the thread is loose, is this when the lock nut is not tight as there should be no movement when the lock nuts are tight. If the locknuts are loose both ends then the alignment can easily change due to the LH and RH threads.
Sorry, no answers, just more questions
Cheers
Tim

Re: Cross over steering hilux
when the nuts are loose the tie rod ends are sloppy in the rod when the nuts are up tight no movement .it was a complete tg kit.when the nuts work loose you can hear the ends flopping in the rods. I have to nip them up every fortnight.yes the threads are loose but only when the nuts are loose .when i got the kit the threads where nice like they should be now they are sloppy.

Re: Cross over steering hilux
If they are comming loose, sounds like the locknuts are not tight enough.
If the threads are now a bit loose, as Tom says maybe better to silt the tube and fit some clamps, will have to be some pretty grunty clamps as the tube is pretty thick and will be hard to close in onto the threads.
Cheers

Re: Cross over steering hilux
Tried any kind of thread locker on them? Know you shouldnt need it but if it's a problem may help... Something like locktite
Re: Cross over steering hilux
T G website says lifetime warranty should i pursue that or not. Would rather not cut them because the clamp needed would be huge
