Prado Heater

Post by wsnownz »

So the heater in by 95 Prado is pretty hopeless. It doesn't have enough power to demist the windscreen, even on full. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Is it an airflow problem or a temperature problem?

Does the truck have AC? That works the best for demisting as it removes the moisture.

Airflow, the air is good and hot, just no pressure. I'll try using air con next time i'm out.

Check the linkages for the air distribution....
Sometimes they (the cable) pops out of its holder and doesn't move the shutters in the heater unit....
It did it on my Prado... and the windscreen demist didnt fully come on...
To get to it was a real twister affair as its in the foot well on the drivers side....

That sounds similiar, like its not coming fully on.
Could you give me more details on what you did?
Cheers.

Basically when you move the controls to full vent thru windscreen, you need to look at what the monkey motion is doing under the dash... And see if the flapper mechanism is moving fully into the right position.
It could be simply a wire has got entangled in the mechanism....
Or the push pull cable needs resetting...
Here is a link to an example of a nissan one..(couldn't find a toyota one quickly)
