Hilux recovery hook mounting?

Hi all,
a mate has a 96ish hilux and needs to mount a couple of hooks on for an upcoming coast trip.
Can he just drill a couple of holes in the bullbar (steel) and mount them off there? It will mean they are in line with the chassis which may help?

How about the back? He was going to use a shackle on the towbar, but can only fit a 3 1/4t one on there.
Any tips/pics are appreciated.

Usually there are mounting points on the front chassis rails for hooks however these might be used if there is a nudge bar.

On mine the nudge bar has a 3mm plate and my hooks mount underneath that with the bolts securing the nudge bar and hooks to the predrilled and tapped chassis mounts.

Off the side of the towbar or off the tounge is a good place in the rear.

Cheers
Matt.
