hi anyone please please guide me how to change thermostat on my mitsubishi pajero v6 3000cc 1993?? the engine temparature have not been sitting still lately. it was at the right running engine temparature after the engine is hot, but after 4/5 minutes the temperature will raise to half for 30 seconds and then back to normal. radiator has been clean properly (removed and clean) and also flushed last two month. replace with new thermostat after cleaning but then think it could be the thermostat that is faulty again now. dont want to go to the workshop again, so, just bought the thermostat and the gasket and want to learn how to fit in myself. please anyone?? thanksss

What about the temp sender unit?? usually the cheapest and easiest fix but often overlooked (well is on rover V8s)
Couldnt guide you on the fitting of a thermostat though sorry.

its easy on them

drain coolant
undo top hose to engine remove top hose

undo two bolts holding thermostat top housing on
remove top housing you may have to tap with soft hammer to break seal
when removed you will see thermostat remove thermostat and fit new one

before you fit top housing make sure all surfaces are clean if got no new gasket just seal with instant gasket make sure you dont get any on thermostate
bolt on top housing fit top hose back on and fill with water

leave running with rad cap off to get all air out of system for about ten mins

put rad cap on take for a run just to get warm let it cool down and then check coolant level again

hope this helps you

hey, would it be a possibility that it is the air that trapped in the cooling system before? have the water pump done in may, radiator clean and flush in july. this problem is noticed after that. just check my bill, new thermostat has been replaced, but it could be the thermostat again right?
