Purchasing LJ78 Prado

Post by u13turbo »

Im hopefully picking up an lj78, I know the motors are good at popping the heads and they are quite gutless... For a bit extra power I was thinking of upping the boost, From what ive heard with a EGT if you keep it below a certain temp the heads are ussually allgood? I know that the LJ's are electronically injected but you can put a non electronic 2lt pump on for upping the fuel to match boost? Whats a good safe level to set it at?

What do they flex like standard? and what things can be done to make it better?

Cheers

Jared,

Talk to Kaiapoi repowers about a pump mate, they do heaps of conversions and pump tuning.

They flex pretty well with one of the sway bars removed as has already been said.

Make sure you check the 4wd works ok as the brushes in the auto hubs wear out and can be a bit of a mish to change.

Picked her up tonight.

Sweet I'll whip one of the swaybars off better flex.

Saw its got manual hubs, which work all good which is a bonus from what You's have said.

With lifting them, does anything need to be modded? I can get a full set of 50mm springs new for $300+ which seems good.

Im wanting to get a front bar, was thinking it would be a good idea to just make my own at work, just wondering what other 70series or other trucks use the same mounting points?

Also Im unsure if the rear is lsd or not, but i know toyota lsds are crap. if i weld the front diff i have heard of people just putting one hub in to allow steering, and then both hubs in when needed, is that safe/reliable?
