Hi,
I have a TD42 rolling body (no motor or gearbox) and would like to repower it with an RB25DET and auto for off road use only. I have a Stagea 4wd auto RB25DET and a R34 Skyline with RB20 Neo auto for parts.
Can anyone advise if i can run one of the autos i have with some other nissan transfer bolted up or the Stagea auto is already 4wd with a transfer but no low range.
Or can a TD42 auto be changed to bolt up to the RB?
I have been looking for a RD28 safari box but cant find one.

Safari transfer should bolt to the back of the 4wd skyline slushy, basically the only difference between that one and the RD28 slushy is that one has a viscous coupled transfer and the other uses a stick to engage 4wd and 4wd low.
make sure you get the adaptor plate that goes in between the box and the transfer as it is used to carry a layshaft bearing
( extra ratio obviously)from memory..
you will also want to use the Trans loom that matches the engine that you want to use as the diesel RD28 box is wired differently to that of the petrol ones.
beleive there is a safari transfer on TM at the moment
Given the parts you have on hand, the best option for you is to bolt the 2wd sump etc to the stagea RB25det, use the same transmission, but seperate the viscous coupled transfer of the back and bolt the safari one on.

Thanks for that. Will any Safari transfer do? I.e. TD42 TB42 manual or auto or does it need to be off an RD28 Safari box?. I have a whole Stagea so have all the loom etc.

pretty sure the actual transfer is the same, the bit in the middle detirmines if it is bolted to a manual or auto lax may be able to confirm, but if you are using auto's may pay to use an auto's transfer case as the out shaft from the manual box will be different to the auto's.
basically you want to find a safari espirit with a blown trans but still got the transfer on the back of it,
the TD/TB trans Re4r03a was the heavier duty casting and physically larger then the re4ro1a used behind the RD and RB blocks

A 4wd RB engine has a different sump bolt pattern and oil pick up location to a RWD engine and the sumps don't interchange. Easiest option is to chop the front diff off the 4wd sump and plate the hole.

easy enough to get 10mm adapter plate and flush hex machine screws. quite common conversion
