I think the sleeve goes to the top from memory but it shouldn't affect the operation... just make sure you have the UJs aligned (if you've slipped the slip-joint apart) otherwise you could end up with driveline vibration.

It always pays (as I'm sure you've figured out by now :) ) to mark everything with a white marker before you start pulling it apart...

It doesn't matter what way you putt the drive shaft in so long as both UJ's are in line, as the diff is fixed in place. So long as your not doin high speed in 4wd you shouldn't need to get it balanced.

on ma piece of broken shit the sleeve that the shaft slides in to is on transfer case end
