1HZ Diesel- white smoke under light loads!?

Post by xorph »

Hey guys, I have a 4.2 non turbo cruiser and for some reason it blows white smoke and misses under high revs and low throttle but is fine under full throttle. sometimes it misses rythmically on idle.
It also makes oil black in 200ks and uses some oil, but runs like a swiss watch otherwise. Its done it since ive owned it 10,000ks ago. It also hasnt changed at all in that time. It is a 96 model with only 140,000ks.
I have a fear that its doing this cos it has low comp in one cylinder.
Im hoping its a bung injector or something that wont cost a million dollars (or is it more these days?).
Anyone had similar exp? or any ideas or recommend a reasonable diesel specialist in auck area?
Im planning on turbocharging to about 7psi too so thought might find out whats wrong first.
Cheers.

nah I never did. Ive just learned to drive it so it never happens.
you are talking about white smoke aye? did you do a compression test on your truck?
From my internet study, these engines are very nuggety except for a common prob with these engines (well the 1HD turbo one mainly) is big end bearings flogging out.
does your truck run rough? slop in big end bearing could cause low compression and misfire. I know Macau motors replaced big ends in my truck ( cos they do that with all 4.2 cruisers they get)
If you find out anything more id be keen to know.
eventually ill go to a diesel specialist but ergh... paying money to find out how much money you need to spend....
