Anybody think they know alot about diesels???

Any of you guys mechanically minded?? I have a strange engine noise ive been trying to diagnose in my TD42. Im on the brink of replacing the mains, big ends and thrust washers out of desperation. Its a sharp irregular rapping sound on idle (600rpm) up to about 1200rpm. Only present when the engine is hot, and and becomes more regular under any load conditions, and with the clutch disengaged (clutch pedal depressed). I have had new injectors, rocker shaft and resurfaced rockers installed. I thought it was perhaps excessive end float on the crank shaft, but surely that would dissappear under load and with the clutch dissengaged, as both put pressure on the crank shaft. 90% of the diesel mechanics i have been to have said its the lifters, in that one of them may have a flat spot on it, making noise when a push rod sits in the same spot for a while. That makes no sense to me, as it appears to be more oil viscosity related. As the oil gets thinner, the noise increases, yet the oil pressures are well with in specs!!! Its very strange, and it is driving me nuts!!!

Knock, Knock.
Who's there . Treat your injectors like spark plugs, get your engine making it's noise and crack open each injector pipe individualy to see if you can isolate the noise to one cylinder. Sounds like Goudgeon Pin knock to me.
Don't rush into a major rebuild yet.
good luck &get dirty, FITZY.

Done that already
makes no difference. Compression test good. Oil pressure good.
Sump came of yesterday. Thrust washers are knackered as i expected. Max end float is supposed to be 0.4mm, and i got as far as .65mm before i ran out of feeler guages, so fingers crossed!!!
Bearings all look pristene, conrod side clearences .15mm and as best as you can tell with out removing the pistons them selves (not all that well) the gudgeons look nice and tight. Besides i think that if that was the problem it would be worse cold, and the engine would have died by know, as its done over 10,000km making this noise while i have been trying to diagnose it.
We shall see what happens when i put it back together. That will be the moment of truth>>>>

I'm having a bit of a stress, do i get the genuine thrust washers or aftermarket??
Seeing as we are dealing with 0.1mm per washer to correct the end float, would it be worth risking the aftermarket ones not quite being on spec??
Or is this just me being paranoid, aftermarket will be fine.
Can you get oversized thrust washers??
I really wish places were open at the weekend, i want to talk to some one to put my mind at ease!!!!
