Just wanting abit of knowledge from the ORE crew. My clutch has started sticking everytime I get in abit of mud. The last time it happened it fixxed itself on the motorway. Tonight it didn't. By sticking I mean it wont engage *spelling?* so I have to start it in gear and ram it in to the next gear at the right speed Is there a seal thats meant to stop this? I've try spraying alot of CRC round the cable but I did nothing. All help and tips would be great. Thanks, Mike

is there an inspection cover under the bell housing you can undo?

i agree you can wash it out a bit through the clutch fork hole it may be the fork not moving due to mud.

Personaly I would pull it out and find where the mud got in and seal it or make a raised breather.

you dont have to pull it out of the truck but enough to wash the mud out.

Cheers guys. I'll have a good look tomorrow. Yeah it's my first car, know a wee bit but not all that much. So it's okay to spray abit of water in there? Sealing it off or moving the breather is probably what I'll be looking at.

Is there an inspection plug on the bellhousing? and can you shove a hose in there to clean it?....what sort of Zuk is it (White Vitara?)

Umm no idea I'll have alook tomorrow in the light. Nah thats my mates. Mines a grey escudo (Getting new tyres tomorrow :afro: )

try and have a good look inside the bellhousing with a torch to see if it is full of mud and crap

Ummm from memory there should be a 1/2 round bellhousing cover on the bottom of the gearbox where it connects to the back of the motor with 2 easy bolts, take this off and have a look...if there is mud everywhere give it a clean.....can you get to the release bearing mechinism.....does this need a grease?

When you take the bolts off take it easy if they are rusty they will snap

You guys have it right . Take the bottom cover off and for a quick fix get the hose and give it a good spray out , work the clutch etc and spray some more . This is not good for the clutch etc but beats taking the gearbox out and probobly changing the clutch anyway . Then take the zuk for a good drive and dry it all out . Should be sweet until the next big mud hole you sink it into

My old 413 I use to pull the box every 12 months to clean the shit out and that was with sticking the hose in the side of the bell housing after every run

From memory my 413 had a rubber cover on the side of the bellhousing (probably for this) , I don't think the Vitara's have this feature.

What exactly is the bell house? and how do I get to it? Bit more of a newbie than I thought

find the gearbox thingy and find where it meets the engine thingy if you go from the front back there is a big "bell" shaped thingy...maybe someone can post up some pics....

Find the sump of the engine looking from the front of engine. At the very back you should see where the gearbox meets the engine. There is a thin tin plate, - half round. There are 2 10mm bolts that hold it on. If it hasnt been off for a while then it will need a gentle prise with a flathead screwdriver. Should be obvious once take it off if there is major crap in there. I replaced mine with a new one from Suzuki. There should be a rubber/foam seal along the top, this breaks down over years of mud and oil.
The first part of the gearbox is called the bellhousing, this houses the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, clutch fork etc. This will be where your issues are happen. At the base of the belllhousing you should see 2 open slits. They face too the back. This is where alot of crap gets in too especially when reversing through mudholes. Make sure they are clear though so crap can get out

Thanks lilpigzuk, helped alot. Undid the two 10mm bolts but couldn't completely get the plate off as there was another, bigger bolt holding it in too. But was enough to get the hose in and give it abit of a clean up.

Still having problems with the clutch... It seems to be okay when I first start but then it craps out again after 10 or so minutes of road driving. Should I try and get those two bigger bolts off so that plate can completely come off or should I just take it to a shop?

You might want to try those 2 bolts first before you take the thing in to the shop, they'll probably be wanting to remove the gearbox to get the clutch out to replace it or clean it up.

If you end up taking it into the shop take it to G.Guy motors (your in Wgtn arent you), they're not the cheapest but they specialise in all that sort of stuff and they may have a few tricks up their sleeves for an easy fix

Or try andrew farmer...he comes to you 0274446803 and is cheap ....

i have had the same thing on mine a few times due to gritty water and pumice, while spraying water in with hose work the clutch lever back and forth,your spline will be dry so you will need to drop the box out eventually and put a good water proof grease on the spline, i use moreys i-red.
