My landrover toy project

To day i finaly got arround to working on the beast,
I didn't have any money to to any thing on the motor because i spent my last $100 on xmas prezzies yesterday on the fricken family and relitives:( (thinking to my self why the hell did i have to have such a big family) so couldn't get nothing for the engine to get it going so I had to tow it.

Any way to day I jacked it up put jack stands under it to get the diff off,
Man was it a mission, All the bolts were all rusty and tight as hell and everything was just crap! .All the nuts were the rong size for the tools i had stupid old land rovers, I couldnt undo the U bolts so I had to cut em off with the grinder ,They were pinging back and flinging all over the place wen i cut em Not somthing i want to do again rusty bastards,

So right now im in the middle of doing a SOA , Instead of using U bolts im just gonna weld it there until i get some more U bolts, Haven't finished yet because mum cam and picked me up to baby sit for her so at 3:00 im going back down to finish off and put it away so no bastards pinch the wheels, but i dout they could pinch the wheels any way,

you cannot weld spring steel like that.
You MUST use u bolts.
Welding makes the steel go brittle and the spring will snap.

Didn't have enouth time to finish of the other home made U bolt thiny so i just said screw it and tide them down it worked but now i have a bigger problem!.

The angle of the drive shaft is to much so im going to make some trangle looking thingy to straten it a bit.

leave the springs set up like that.. its better cos when ya articulate up the geometric angles and forces applied on the opposing springs begin to force the artificial artic bringing it all into balance when either on an incline or not... also the approach angles and the 'over the bonnet' view is better so you can have more accurate wheel placement and line taking abilities...

hill climbs in this particular set up enable a more efficient system in which power is put to ground...

and the driveshafts are on an angle? yeah? prrfffttt.. dont worry about it, as long as the spline is still making contact its all good..

Nicely put nibs, rock crawlers spend hours calculating anti-squat with 4 and 5 link rear ends but they dont know this simple set up produces the same results. Just make sure you always go uphill

where can i get some of that blue rope, i got a steering knuckle giving some grief. I want to strip it apart at home, but if its all bent i may not be able ot get it together again, so ill need to get it to the workshop somehow........

On a serious note though, Tu's would it not be easier to make longer leaf spring brackets, be rid of the shackles, invert the spring, and re mount it? therefore the drive-to-differential co-efficient of rotation will be sychronising with the obtuse mesh of the transfer. you speak of the flex gain/loss Tu's, surely simply bolting in a safari beam axle, increasing the trackwidth, will compensate for the change in angle AND allow a more stable centre of gravity. what was required as say 500mm flex with the original, with the saffa set up will now only need 374.5mm of flex to gain the same result.

Or will it... ill need to do some more homework on this.
