10th & 11th May

Post by xj »

1) Replaced upper rear control arm bushes. Have spare lower rear if any Jeeper needs em, too big for my aftermarket arms.
2) Re-affixed uhf antenna mount.
3) Fitted JKS Quick disconnects... had a good stretch, the only thing that stopped me was that I ran out of brakeline!
4) Purchased 30 "JP" magazines for $60.00 on TM.... thats $2.00 per mag!

Spent all day on a 4WD demo-day for work. Pete & Deb Ritchie from Natural Instincts in Rororua came down and did it, through Suzuki NZ. Really good day, but frustrating as hell when you'd rather be out doing it yourself. Still, it's cool seeing the look on peoples faces when they've never been in relatively extreme situations in a vehicle before, and the way they can't stop grinning and chattering when they get back.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get the engine out of the parts truck and stripped down.

Well having trawled through the site for ideas I finally started on the storage units for the back of my Isuzu ...

Image

What I found surprising is the amount of gear I carry around ...

Image

Just have to fit the lids to the right hand side one, remount the fire extinguisher and fix an issue with the seats not tipping up because it is to tight a fit against the box.
It worked fine when there was only the left box in place
As I get time I am going to make a unit that fits between them and is the same height as the folded seats for when I go away.
I am also going to make a panel that can be fitted across the seat that makes a platform long enough to sleep on.

Hey Dazza I am not 100% sure but you may not get a warrent with those boxers past the seats and also do the seatbelts touch them at all cause that will be an instint fail

The impact on the WOF is something I had not thought about
The seat belts do not touch the box's, that I did check.
and the height of the box's makes them great armrests but that won't count.
Best I have a talk to the WOF man without the box's in place and see what he says ...
The temptation is to take the back seats out, but they come in handy occasionally.

Just my opinion but i think you will have to radius the edges and maybe do something with the hinges so ya can't hurt ya self on em if things go pear shaped

personally, I have spent the last 2 months upgradin the hilux, and, having figured out Photobucket, heres some update pics

a whine in the gearbox, 3rd and 5th (been there since I bought it) had seemed to be getting worse so decided to pull and strip the box and found this gem

Image

the gears etc were still ok, lucky enough  , so put a bearing kit in it, refitted and no more whine (unless the wife is in the truck!!)

have also fitted 33' Goodyear MTR's and a "50mm" lift kit and shocks, although It has lifted more than 50mm

any way, I had refitted the Runva Winch a few weeks ago and started building the Bullbar around it, almost finished, just need to tie the main bar to the lower chassis mounts, add the lower loop bar, add brackets for indicators and spots and paint the whole lot black and then bring on the 4 wheelin

well, this is kinda related to 4x4's....

On the way to taking my wife out for brunch for mothers day we saw a young skinny weedy little white fella having an altercation with an old bloke on the side of the road. He took off and the old fella tried chasing him. The wife was driving (in her jeep) and decided that something was up and we ought to go have a chat to the young fella (i just wanted a feed!).
He ducked up an alley way off a side road and in order to get him to stop Kat full on cuts him off, missing nailing him by a matter of inches.
We have a chat and before I could get out he bolts.... to a dead end.... thank god he could jump! Over a retaining wall he goes, while Kat manages to stop right where he was standing. "Bugger me1", says I," Im not jumping over no bloody walls..." So we head back and have a talk to the old geezer, who, it turns out, owns a backpackers that this young dude has just robbed. The wifes fair got her dander up and so we head off again to hunt/run him down.
Long story short, the police caught him hiding just over the wall that he'd jumped (BUT i maintain, had I gone over too he would have carried on running, which probably would not have good for either of us!!) He was on Police 10-7 two weeks ago for various fraud and theft warrents!!!!

The wifes stoked, reckons running down crims in the Jeep is possibly more fun that offroading.

I eventually got to have my feed.

all in all, a whore of a day!

Why would she when she has finally broken through and gets you to do what she wants you to    She would have to start all over again (not smart thinking). Ten years, you are a spring chicken, we just celebrated our 14 years about four weeks ago.

Mine has yesterday given me the okay to replace her aging Honda. She has set very simple criteria for the replacement:
- it should not be smaller than what she drives (CR-V);
- it has to be an AWD/SUV; and
- it cannot be significantly larger than what she drives.

I think a Cherokee (or even a Grand Cherokee) fits the criteria. Now the hunt begins to see if we can find something reasonable within our budget. I have been given three months to accomplish the task.

PS: Given that I got the permission over the weekend to get another 4x4 qualifies me posting it here.

and TJ, while we're at it, can you have a peek in your FSM (seeing as how I still dont have my driver working on my laptop) and see if there are part numbers or specs for the front brake line fittings. Cant be buggered taking one off to use as a comparison, and the guys at APEX couldn't be arsed stepping out from behind the desk to take a look. Need to add aobut 100mm to my front lines for the added flex. Cheers

The easiest way to do that is to actually use the front brakelines for a YJ. They were longer for some reason (probably to get around the leaf springs) and are an exact fit. I'll see if I can find a part number for you.

Had to do the 'quick lift all gear off the floor as the water level was rising' trick... The gumboots were just long enough!

it worked :P only rubbing is from the flares..

also managed to break one of my mirrors when i had to reverse back down a track...

but from the first drive in the mud with semi decent tyres, the new whale seems a hell of a lot more capable than the old surf.

Honestly, you should be able to order directly from a US site and have it delivered before Queens birthday! If he is taking a long time, there are alternative avenues available. May be you should give the dealer a call and see if they have YJ brake hose in stock?

Spent most of today scratching my ass and looking at wires. Decided to clean everything to make the job easier as well.

When I looked into the intake manofold I can see it has had clay dust in there so is there an easy way of cleaning this out without stripping the whole thing down furthur? My Missus reakons this thing is being turned into a bigger pile of parts and will not be running by christmas (Now I have a goal - to prove her wrong).

One step forward and one back at the mo.

vid will be posted in the club class winch comp thread when its uploaded
