HELP: 70 series transfer case oil leak.

Post by cornfarmer »

Gidday team, got an oil leak in the front of my transfer case where the front drive shaft comes out (1988 BJ73, 13BT) . I'm guessing the oil seal has gone. Have dropped the front shaft out, but there is a huge nut (about 30mm) holding the companion flange on. Has anyone replaced the oil seal in one of these before? Any idea on the price of a new oil seal? Are there any tricks to installing them? And does anyone have a spare filler bung to fit the same transfer case?

Thinks me might need a rattle gun to get the nut off the companion flange. Its on there good and proper!!!

Or put it into 4Lo and drive the truck with a socket & bar against the chassis. It'll either turn or break the bar....

Hadn't thought of that. Will give it a jam if I can't find a rattle gun.
