Carports

Post by dazza85 »

Does any body know what the rules apply when putting up carports ??
Do you need a permit ?
Some people have said that if it is not attached to another building you don't need a permit?
I am guessing the rules are different with the different councils ...
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

The rules shouldnt be different between the councils coz of the RMA and Building act?

I dunno about carports but you used to be able to build a structure of 10m2 so long as its not used for accomodation or dosent contain potable water ie: a shed but not quite big enough to be a garage?

sorry guys all wrong, carports require permit and any structure with permanant foundations ie concreted piles etc but this is only an issue if selling a property and prospective buyer does a pim report.
best way is to build carport on cast in bomac post brackets then you can un bolt the bugger and shift it if it ever becomes a problem

Safest way is to contact your local council & ask them....could be an expensive mistake to just build one

unless your gonna sit it on the ground it needs a permit, these days if you change anthing in your house chances are legally it needs a permit they love to suck the little money we have left after paying through the nose for petrol and cheese getting a permit need not be an expensive exercise though generally speaking our councill here in palmy are fairly reasonable
