What ratio? Presumably its 4.8 since you have a 3Y/4Y powered truck? I have a 4.8 LSD that needs rekitted as well, or a good 4.8 open... $220 each...

As a general rule of thumb 2 and 2.2l petrol Hiluxes have 4.8 ratios, petrol AND non turbo diesel Surfs have 4.5 ratios and 2.4 Turbo diesel surfs have 4.3 ratios. I think the 3 litre turbo diesel surfs have 4.1 ratios, but can't remember exactly.

Don't ever take that as gospel, because they can be changed by people who don't know, and even can be changed from the factory for reasons no-one could fathom.

Check the trans/axle code from the firewall for details, then match it using the document linked from the home page of this site (bottom right corner - can't remember its name but its pretty obvious when you find it...)

Oh, and don't confuse the term "diff" with the term "axle assembly", or just "axle". The diff is the differential gear assembly, or the diff head, and the axle is the solid tube assembly that the diff bolts into.

When I say I have a diff for sale, I mean just the diff :) Call me a pedantic bastard, but there you go

There are 3 or 4 different axle assembly types as well, depending on model...

Yeah, my LSD is rumbly, which means new bearings and therefor a complete re-set-up of the diff... I have someone who does this for me, not because it needs special tools or anything - but because it requires patience and I don't have any

You're looking at about $800-odd to fully reco an LSD from memory, so you're better off to throw the LSD bit away and fit a Lokka to it instead - Mike sells them for $650 so the cost will be similar but the results FAR better.

I do have a good condition LSD 4.8, but no you can't have it - its going in the MU... eventually

You could buy the open one and fit a locker to that... but if Tims (Hosehustlers) 4.8 is any good that will be the better cost option.

the driveshaft flange bolts directly onto the pinion shaft, the pinion shaft has a gear on the end (called pinion), the pinion is what drives the crown wheel, crown wheel drives the carrier, carrier drives the rear axles :P
hope this helps
can be a lot to digest , but it's all relatively simple :?
the pinion gear on the 4.88 LSD I have has a chip off one tooth, it could go fine for a month, or maybe ten friggin' years don't know,
it was going fine when removed (I have put 5.29 ratio diffs in :!: )
still a cheap diff if you want
if you want more info on diffs try http://www.4x4wire.com/
