well ive sold my hilux and have been having 4wding withdrawls , so i decided to buy a suzuki
its a 2004 model, done 21,000kms, has a fully locked rear diff, cable operated front locker, twin transfers, independant suspension front and rear and goes really hard offroad! best of all it costs less than $30 to fill with gas!
i done the ashley track last weekend on it and had a great time. next i want to try it out on the rocks. i know its not a truck but its fun all the same!
That Ashley track is interesting on quads, you don't fit in the ruts but normally fall in one side or the other!
take to deep water in it!
I have a Honda ATC (3 wheeler) which is better in water than a quad (quad too heavy - trike floats even with two people on it). In mud the trike outdoes a 2wd quad but the 4x4 quad is best for climbing and angles.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.
looks fun, come on there must be a list of mods. Watch out for those electric fences, last time I was on a quad it was on a farm and chasing the bull (pet bull) to another paddoc I got stuck in the fence. Bang as soon as I stepped off
They are a lot of fun.
Legal disclaimer: Any information I may have provided is worth exactly what you paid me for it.
Nice fourwheeler - looks like it will go bloody well offroad. I have a couple of Honda quads and I am interested in using them a bit more offroad instead of just on the farm as the price of fuel is starting to diminish my enthusiasm for using the truck on trips.
I'm quite interested in the lockers - I presume the rear has been welded up, but what about the front - whereabouts did you find a manual locker for it?
the locker was factory fitment on the suzuki kingquad. tried it in the water last weekend and this one deffinatly doesnt float maybe if i put bigger tyres on it will?
list of mods? umm im gone put a gun rack on it somewhere apart from that not to much else. anyone else keen to go out for a splat somewhere next weekend?
With the Hondas they went from chain driven to shaft driven about 1986.
We had a chain driven ATC (no reverse, only front shocks - which had been removed) and the thing was so light and you got a real feel for the ground that it was so easy to maneuver, and floated like the ark. The later ones with the shaft drive, reverse, full suspension etc, are quite a bit heavier and don't float as well and take more body effort to maneuver.
The chain drive have solid axle, jolly stiff on the seal (best to pop one back wheel off the ground), we ended up sheering the splines off the axle so we sat there with the axle spinning and the wheel staying still - welded it all up That thing started smoking like nothing else to the extent the neighbours rung up concerned about the fire.
The later ones have a diff, they seem to turn better than the old ones but may still be solid. You still need to lift the inner wheel off the ground for tight seal work - well it feels safer that way then it jumping around and trying to go straight.
