A Classic is Reborn

Post by DieselBoy »

Brought a wreck for Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeep:
Image

Image

.........................................Spent 2 months in the shed.....................................................

And arrived here:

Image

Two months in the shed saw me cutting 90% of the floors out, patching 5 or 6 holes in the bodywork, rewireing, new dash, tidying up suspension and drive train etc etc etc. (so much stuff done so quickly its a blurr)

The best part of the truck is the REALLY REALLY ugly suspension. Its coiled, with a 4 link front and a three link rear. The radius arms are the ugly bits, where they attach to the chassis instead of the usual bush or rose joint, there are huge truck steering ball joints. The idea is that they are sealed from dirt unlike a rose joint, greasable and prevent any binding that would usually occur in a bush. Its fawken SOLID and works quite well despite how rude it looks:

Image

Its running a fresh 305 Chev dedicated LPG, Turbo 400 trans, Dana 18 transfer, MQ/MK Patrol Diffs, Chev power steering box and pump coupled to the standard patrol steeing rods/links, 35 X 11.5" 15 Silverston MT-117 Extreme tyres, a very problematic Runva 10,000lb low mount winch, 3" Silvester 5 point harnesses, M&H Vinyl fixed back comp seats and other stuff.

Still have the LPG system to overhaul, the battery to remount and heavy duty cableing to run to the winch and few other ods and ends and it'l be all on :D

From what i can gather, the lines of the body are loosly based on an early flat fender Willy's Jeep, similar to a CJ2a.

Its safe to the say that besides certain lines of the body and the trademark grille, it doesn't share much in common with your avaerage Jeep

Yep, thats the one. I remember seeing it trialing when i was still in nappies. From what i have been told so far, it was built back in the late 70's. Saying that, i need to get of my ass and get in contact with the guy that built it :D

They need to creat a new class "Classic Club Trucks"

The name will be going back on it, just waiting on a favour from a mate for that one, sign writers aint cheap

Looks way cool very jealous  , can I put my pig in your workshop for two months and have it come out looking all shight and brinny? mind you I don't tend to do any thing on my rig that takes that long cause I cannot bear to be with out it on the road for more than a couple of weeks at a time

Lol, you just gotta choose your projects.

Half an hour every night, even if its just measureing and marking stuff or choosing a panel to sand, swaping a sping or a shock and testing on the highlift, it all adds up :D

Not to mention the weekends dedicated to it 8)

You gotta get it done while your still excited about it, drag it out to long and it gets boring

Its also good when you have 5 or 6 things on the go at once, parts being made or sourced while you doing something else so when you ready to start the next part everything is there ready to go.

Even when the father in law comes over and shakes his head at seeing his daughter covered in dirt and greese with an angle grinder in hand and tells you your a sucker for punishment
