Hilux Conversion

Post by TOAD »

Hi, As it says im converting my 83 18R Hilux to 3.8 V6
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
Ive got a series 1 3.8 with a series 2 coil pack,
Im looking at using my 4 speeed and transfer case,
Looks like i might have to get an adapter plate made?

Things i need info on....
What sort of flywheel, Pressure plate and clutch to use with this combination?

Thanks for any input 8) 8)

if the holden was a auto then you will need to get a flywheel made to fit, early holden V6s ran different cranks for manual or auto, a adaptor plate could be made relatively easily depending on the length of input shaft of gear box, sump will possibly need mods to clear front diff assembly, pressure plate and clutch probably best to go to a clutch place and ask, they should be able to point you in the right direction for that stuff,
i see you are in whitby, where abouts?

cheers

pedro

If the series 2 coilpack isn't on the engine already you can get and adaptor plate for it to fit. i get all my holden stuff from autolab in auckland but don't know where you'd go down there? i didn't think you could get an auto series 1 to be manual? I've got a series 1 manual in my surf with surf transfer/gearbox and know that i can't get an engine from an auto commodore and straight swap if my one dies

Hi, Ive done what you're going to do.
Mike in Taupo cut the frount(bell housing) off the commie auto and welded a plate to it to take the hilux box, made a fly wheel , hi-ace van clutch(8.5"). You then beat the hell out of the fire wall with a slegde hammer(cheap) take the heater and fan out first, or move gear box forward. If your motor is high enough the diff only gives the sump a light smack! once! and it's all good.Find a good sparky to sort the ecu(i run a auto ecu).
A bloody good strong motor better than a poxy lexus.
If you want some pics i can e-mail you some
Cheers scott
