vx landcruiser how many kms is too much.

Post by cornfarmer »

It's time to get a four door with the expanding family and must part with my 70 series. Have been looking at 4.2 diesel vx cruisers and want to know if anyone has struck any major probs with them once they hit the 200,000km-250,000km mark and how many km can you expect to get out of one with regular servicing etc.
Nothings a problem if you don't give a f#ck.

Were these the ones with the faulty big end bearings?

yea, mainly the factory manual ones and it was a 100,000K problem, if they have past that the big ends should be sweet as.

It was an issue with factory turbo ,models from 1990 -1992ish. non-turbos were fine and 24 valve engines were fine. If they are still sounding sweet and have good leak downs and oil pressure at 200kms, then i guess it will be fine. 1/2 a million Ks is not out of the question for one of these engines if regular maintenance has been done.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

My 80 series has 396,000kms on it at the moment an had a full engine rebuild at around the 330,000kms mark.

The clutch needs to be replaced and the (manual) gearbox needs a service but I don't know when they were replaced.

I did oil and filters 10,000kms after I bought it, now I'm up around the 16,000kms so it's a bit overdue and I've noticed the 1HD-T gets noisy when its due for a change but apparently thats common for most diesels?

You've got no problems, unlike Safari owners whose vehicles fall apart in strong breezes.
