rear diff for hilux

got to pull the rear diff out of my 1990 hilux on saturday, its making a hell of a noise and grating sound when driving. does anyone know where to source one cheap? its an lsd one to. hopefully someone will have one lying around?

i have an open (not LSD) 4.3 diff head which should be the same as yours, only taken out of a 1993 doublecab because we changed my fathers truck to 4.88 ratio's. cheap at $180 :wink:

Need to know the ratio... give us the tran/axle code from your plate on the firewall or post the ratio if you know what it is.

Also, are you certain its the diff and not something in the driveline around it?

hi steve, trans/ axle code is g52 g285. im pretty certain its the diff as i have it on jack stands at the moment and had it running. i put a screwdrive on the diff housing and all the noise seemed to be coming from that area.

Yep, well G285 is a 4-pinion LSD 4.3 ratio, so your best and cheapest bet will be Tims open one he mentioned above otherwise start shopping for a 4.3LSD - which will probably set you back at least $400 if you can find one outside of a wreckers... any wrecker with one will probably want well more than that.

Best bet will be to remove it and check to see whats happened - it might be a bearing which can be replaced, or it could be rust-induced early retirement - in which case it will make a nice (and VERY effective) paperweight

I have an old 4.3 LSD but you would need to tighten it up a bit. Open to offers. Its cluttering my garage. I put in a 4.8. Cell 0274447734.
