Offset diff and gearbox options

Post by Andrew1706 »

I've got a Blizzard which I've put 60 series diffs SOA. The rear is a cable locker and just like the Blizzard was originally it's got offset diffs for an offset transfercase.

The setup as it is will be fine if I was running 31s or something but as I plan to run something bigger because of the SOA I'm going to need to repower at some stage, the 2LT struggles to spin 31s.

The only thing is the offset rear diff, I bought a hilux gearbox anticipating a 1UZ swap but turns out its a G52 which will handle road tires but anything big and with diff locks it'll go pop and also it doesnt have an offset rear output because obviously hiluxs' have centered rear diffs.

Aside from changing to a different rear diff, what other gearbox transfer options do I have? The truck is quite a short wheelbase so a long box like the hilux wasnt going to be suitable anyway.

If I get a better hilux box (R series) for an 1UZ conversion will the angle the driveshaft is on from the centre of the transfer to the offset diff cause too many problems?

Truck will be a-framed everywhere so the rear shaft will spin all the time but will only ever be driven offroad.
Cheers

you could use an r series box from a early (solid axle) prado they are plenty strong enough and have cruiser offset transfer case. and they can run a pto :D

Prado such as a SWB 2 thing? Like Jerrys?

A friend of mine wants to replace his 2lt and r151 (??) from his LJ71 with a 1HDT motor and box but he's struggling to find one.

I have one in my truck but I want it

I was actually going to contact him to see if he had an offset diff or not but it was too late.

Actually I think theres been a couple sold on trademe over the past couple of weeks too

Thats the one!
Grab that box off your mate , It'll be perfect. Although they are quite long maybe a cruiser box like H55 would be shorter.
