Mounting steering dampener

Post by vinceandrobyn »

I've done some modifications to my Isuzu MU. I have a hilux front axle fitted and 60 series landcruiser steering arms. I am looking at mounting a steering dampener. I have two options of fitting the dampener. Is it best fitted as a hilux, from diff to steering arm, or like the landcruiser from steering arm to chassis?

You wont be fitting the dampnerto the diff as the diff moves ..they are usually mounted onto the chassis..is on my hilux (KZN130).You also wont be allowedto weld a bracket onto any steering componts as the cert guy wont pass it .

It would probably be easier to go from the tie rod to the diff as you should already have a mount for it, but being sua it would be simple as well to go from the draglink to the chassis

If you have cruiser steering by going to the wreckers you should be able to find a drag link that already has the tapered fitting for a steering damper. All you need then is a mount at the other end on the chassis.

A Hilux one fits on the diff and it makes it vulnerable to damage where as a cruiser one is higher up.

There is a huge selection of drag links and tie rods from prados, cruisers and hiluxs that you can mix and match.

No a KZN130 is IFS so not beam...i even went & checked where it was mounted ....onto chassis..most likely on different places on different models.
