Any P38 Rangie owners here?

Post by coop »

Gday, I just aquired a P38 4.6 Range Rover. I was just seeing if they are any been used off road in this country? I've only seen em being used for towing and driven around town. I'm very tempted to keep it and put some better tyres and maybe coil spacers in (EAS was ditched a few years ago) but I can see it costing me A LOT of $$$ in the long run (compared to me old Cherokee anyway). Traction control and ABS is playng up atm but once thats sorted I'll take her out to Woodhill forrest for a play, would be the first post RR Classic I've seen off road (except in a garage lol).

Cheers.

Not me, but I know a handful of P38 owners who get them dirty. Not up to the sills muddy, just dirty.

If you're having abs and TC issues, check the sensors are running the right gap, they slide in and out. Play in the wheel bearings affects them in a bad way.

Haha, funny you should mention that, I just pulled the sensors out tonight after work, gave em a clean but still no TC or ABS. Don't think there'd be play in the bearings as it just had a wof, but then again it passed with an ABS fault (at a VINZ too).
Bloody poms and their electrics, fortunately there is a lot of info from the UK and US, just a bugger parts burn a hole in the wallet, so yeah, will be going easy on her, just a real nice touring wagon. Cheers.

Yep we are here and keen on getting them dirty. We have owned our P38 for only a few weeks but are off to Woodhill for the 3rd time and loving it. the car performs brilliantly and we only get a few odd looks from other more 'serious' users! We even have the running boards which don't slow us down. Meeting up with another P38'er at Woodhill today also. cheers!

Yeah i have a p38 and it is an amazing off roader. I have some Goodyear Wrangler MTR's and kept the air bag setup. The traction control works really well in the mud and seems to push the car further and further. I am heading up to the 4wd extreme park shorlty and expect to do very well. I recommend getting your sensors fixed first because the traction control makes a massive difference offroad. It's like having a locker really. Any questions feel free to ask. Cheers

There is a guy in Hamilton area that has built one up for off road.
Own front bar work with winch, snorkel, coil springs and 33" tyres.
Saw it perform off road a year or two ago (Motu or one of those trips) and it looked and sounded awesome.
