Fitting 2nd gen surf body to 1st gen chassis

Post by hosehustler »

Hi all,
i'm really needing a 4 door surf as family enjoy 4-wheelin' these days and my old 2 door surf is a pain in the behind, also getting a bit shabby for the warrant man, but mechanically its perfect and well set up.
Was looking at replacement of the vehicle, but...........has anyone any had any experience at fitting a 4 door body to a 2 door beam axle chassis??.
These 4 doors with blown 2.4lt engines are getting bloody cheap and it's got me thinking!
Also what would be any LTSA probs as my beastie is already cert, would I need recert??
any help would be appreciated before I purchase a 4-door and find it can't be done :?

Urrm, not sure if this is relevant, but i have "seen" a guy down on the coast who rolled his 2.8 Lux, and fitted a 91 surf body to the chassis afterwards as the Lux body was beyond repair.

I assume the solid axle surf chassis is very similar to the Hilux, so you could be in luck?????

Very interested to know if a surf to surf swap could be done

 good stuff be different thats what i like to see :D

yes it can be done,a gen 4door chasiss is shorter than u think :D its just the case if redirecting youre youre gen 1 chasis mounts for the gen 2 body ................easy as i reckon :D

regarding cert yes it will need to be re- certed $350.00 :D for the simple reason youve swapped the body (not an oem std spec)

theres actually a guy that lives up Urewhenua(upper takaka)he did this years ago :D ,you wouldent even know lookn at it.i personally dont know him but he drives for G4 logging(hes carts out of mt richmond)dont know his fleet number  .

ill keep my eye out HHUSTLER :D

was chatting to him yesterday
cheers anyway Kev, looks like this project is going to happen, seeing as I will have to run it through certification again I might do some of those other things I would like to, i.e cross over steering for sure , maybe falcon springs in the rear 8)
