1993 Toyota Landcruiser Prado SX any good?

Post by FORGE1 »

Hey everyone,

I currently have a 1993 GQ Safari SWB and now I have a new addition to the family I need something bigger and cant afford a 80 series or a LWB Safari with what I have on my SWB and I saw this in a car yard down the road.

Trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =224742141

What are they like off road? is there anything to look for? Do they have a LSD's in the rear? this one is coil sprung allround so should have some decent flex and its a 3L so guessing its the same motor thats in the hilux?

If there is anything else I would need to know about these all info would be much appreciated

Thanks
Ray

They are a great truck, bit of an odd model, I have a 93 manual. There is a bit of info on here about mods. do a search. not as much off the shelf stuff for it as other models but getting much better. It will be a kzj78
Look at the axle code on the vin plate it will tell you if open, lsd or locker.
Most likely G284 which is 8" diff with 4gear carrier and 4.3 ratio.

Will take 33 muds standard but better with 50mm lift.

I have fitted rear factory locker, pto winch and a front locker, done diff ratio's and just loving it goes great, cargo barrier also good mod if family go with you.
Hope this helps
Good luck

A couple of things

Beware of the motor and get the head checked as everyone of them will crack the original head. New heads have been improved

As a standard truck they dont flex much but can be improved greatly and the longs go better than the shorts

At that milage I would do a check of the electric hubs, thats if it still has them, have seen guys that get their truck home only to find that the hubs won't lock.
